What You Can Expect

Amsterdam Countryside Bike Tour Including Cheese Tasting and Clog Demonstration

Explore the Dutch countryside on this bike tour

Leave the bustle of the city behind on a 4-hour countryside bike tour from Amsterdam. Your 13.5- to 15-mile (22- to 25-kilometer) ride will take you the outskirts of the city and the countryside beyond, stopping along the way so your guide can share interesting anecdotes and background.

Your tour begins in central Amsterdam in the late morning, when your informative guide provides a brief introduction to Amsterdam’s history. Then, cycle through the bike-friendly city of Amsterdam, pedaling along narrow streets and canals and over beautiful bridges.

Slowly, your cityscape changes to tranquil pastures and peaceful waterways. Keep watch for colorful houseboats, as well as people fishing and rowing in the water.

At a local farmhouse, meet a farmer and enjoy some Dutch traditions: sample farm-produced cheese and watch a demonstration of how clogs are made. Stop at the iconic De Riekermolen windmill, one of only eight remaining authentic windmills in and around Amsterdam.

During your ride back to Amsterdam, cycle through some of the city’s parks including the lush Vondelpark, Amsterdam’s largest and most well-known park, and the woodland scenery of Amsterdamse Bos Park. Your tour ends in the afternoon.

A must do in Amsterdam!! Mike is funny, full of energy, and has an incredible grasp on the history of the areas through which you ride. She expertly guides you through the busy streets of the city and out into the gorgeous countryside, all at a manageable pace. The bikes are in great condition, and come with pouches for you to put small personal belongings in. We've traveled extensively and this tour is one of the best we have ever taken! The bike shop is easy to find, clean, and organized and all of the staff are super friendly and helpful. We plan on returning to Mike's if we're ever in Amsterdam to rent bikes and explore on our own. There is time to have lunch when you stop at the cheese farm, so I recommend bringing a light lunch or snack, as well as a bottle of water.

The guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We took the ride into the countryside. Amazing how close it was. The bikes were great and they provided rain caes which we needed for a quick shower. It was beautiful and from ages 9 to 66 in our family we all kept pace.

Excellent tour led by Lyle, or was it Kyle, an American transplant. He knew great amounts of Dutch and city history, a wealth of knowledge!!! It was a short but fun trip to the countryside. We got to see cheese making as well as wooden shoe making. The city is much more fun of 2 wheels.

One of the highlights of our trip to Amsterdam. The bike riding is gentle and it's lovely to get a chance to ride round the city with an experienced guide - who was interesting and friendly. The ride out into the countryside was great, very pretty and flat!. The trip to the cheese and clog place was touristy but a nice little break. Really worth doing if you want to see a bit more of Amsterdam than the city centre.
