What You Can Expect

Amsterdam Super Saver: Windmill, Tulip Tour to to Zaanse Schans, Marken, Volendam, Keukenhof

Tulips at Keukenhof Gardens

Zaanse Schans Windmills, Marken and Volendam Half-Day Tour (5 hours):
In central Amsterdam, board an air-conditioned coach and travel with your guide through a picture-perfect landscape crisscrossed with canals as you head out of the city.

Stop in the village of Zaanse Schans, where you'll see windmills and a historic shipyard. As you tour the town, learn more from your guide about this town renowned for its 17th- and 18th-century buildings that vividly depict historical Dutch life. Then visit a local shoemaker and watch clog-making techniques firsthand.

Next, enjoy a 20-minute boat ride to Volendam and Marken. In these authentic fishing villages, locals still wear their colorful traditional dresses and the old wooden houses stand on stilts. After seeing the villages, head to a local cheese factory for a demonstration and tasting of cheese crafted in the traditional Dutch way.

Return by coach to Amsterdam, where you'll have 30 minutes of free time to relax and have lunch (own expense) before starting your tour of Keukenhof Gardens.

Keukenhof Gardens and Tulip Fields Tour (5 hours):
Board the coach and together with your guide, then admire the countryside landscapes on the 1-hour drive to Keukenhof, passing colorful tulip fields along the way. En route, hear about the history of Keukenhof and the flower fields that are characteristic of the surrounding area.

Upon arrival, enjoy three hours of free time to explore the Keukenhof Gardens (more than 80 acres/32 hectares) on your own, with a provided map that gives you the gardens’ highlights, including sculptural installations. Wander along windy paths, into greenhouses, along brooks and shady ponds. Admire the swathes of colors from the blossoming tulips, daffodils, bluebells, hyacinths, and others.

When it’s time to leave, board your coach for the return trip to Amsterdam.

This an excellent trip if you want to experience everything Dutch in a short space of time. The Keukenhof gardens are truly spectacular and the trip allows you 4 hours or so to see them. Volendam is a lovely little town and you get to sample a good variety of cheeses. You also get to visit a most entertaining clog maker in Marken.
The only thing to bear in mind is that this is a full day trip -close to 12 hours start to finish - and consequently may not appeal to everyone.

My son and I had a great time on this all day tour. We started out at Keukenhof and enjoyed all the beautiful blooms even though we were a bit before the peak season. The rest of the day was well planned with a decent amount of time at each stop. The restaurant they suggested for lunch was very good. The fried cod was fresh and a good sized portion. Our guide Diana was fluent in English, Spanish, and French which was appreciated by everyone on the bus! She was also very kind and personable. I would definitely recommend this tour.

Great, but have a lot of energy! I wish we had more time at the windmills and Volendam. This day is packed, so be prepared to walk! We enjoyed it all, but I felt like Keukenhof was the only place we had enough time to take our time and enjoy. I'm glad we did this though, because we wouldn't have seen as much on our short trip if we didn't.

we enjoyed every minute of this busy day. our guide Diana led our group of more than sixty people starting with a morning tour at keukenhof gardens and then to the afternoon tour of zaanse, volendam and marken. we had plenty free time to explore each site and ample of explanations from the guide and the audioguide. we all appreciated the fact that the tour was continuous without returning to Amsterdam between destinations. thank you for a day full of experiences.

As long as you recognize these locations are 'tourist traps', the trip is fantastic. It especially fun for the kids to see the cheese factory and the wooden shoe factory. The bus driver was, by far, the best I've ever had on a Viator trip and I've taken several. He was energetic, entertaining he even played the keyboard...while the bus was parked!, and made the trip really fun. March is a little early for Keukenhof. The majority of the outdoor plants had not bloomed but the indoor garden was beautiful.

Fantastic - the tour guides were well organized and laid out the trip so you had plenty of time in each location to shop, try the local foods, and explore!
