Amsterdam Walking Tour

Learn about Amsterdam's culture and history

Your 3-hour walking tour of Amsterdam begins in the morning in Dam Square, where your informative guide leads your small group around the historical center. Learn about Amsterdam's history, arts, culture and architecture, from the city’s humble beginnings on the Amstel River to the glorious Golden Age to today.

View the Royal Palace, the famous Dutch East Indies company, the Begijnhof courtyard with its hidden church, the Amsterdam Museum and the old city gates. Admire perfectly preserved 17th-century gabled houses and peaceful tree-lined canals dotted with traditional Dutch houseboats. Walk by the Rembrandt House Museum, the Anne Frank House and Descartes' House.

Wander down the bustling shopping street of Kalverstraat, and in the Jordaan district, note the many upscale art galleries, speciality shops and restaurants. Your guide also takes you into the alleys of the notorious Red Light District (de Wallen).

End your tour at Westerchurch, with plenty of time left in the day to continue exploring on your own.

Loved this tour with Rebecca. While she wasnt a native from Amsterdam she certainly did her homework and provided a solid history of Amsterdam. Many historic sights were pointed out and we got a feel of the city on our first day there. We used our new found information for the rest of our time in Amsterdam. Cant wait to return n the future.

We took the 3 hour Walking Tour with Arthur and it was fabulous! It was a perfect way to get some basic ideas about the history of Amsterdam and to familiarize ourselves with the area. A great introduction to the city. I would highly recommend the tour for first time visitors to Amsterdam.

My tour was fantastic. I took this tour my first day, and it only made me want to learn more about Amsterdam. I had a small group, so we were able to ask questions to our guide directly. He even provided some information on where to try great fries.

We had absolutely the BEST guide. In a few short hours we were shown the lay of the land which was soooo confusing to help yus better understand all the curving streets and history and culture of Amterdam. Highly recommend rather than wandering around trying to figure it out yourself

Tour guide Arthur was very knowledgeable and gave great insight into Amsterdam, both its past and present. Only three people on the tour, so able to ask plenty of questions and go at our own pace.

The tour was terrific. Arthur was knowledgeable and very enthusiastic. Viator is not up to date on a few things though the tour operator has asked them to update their website info. For example the start/end spots for the tour are not correct. That did not detract from an entertaining tour!
