I really enjoyed the day trip to visit the Dutch windmills and the countryside. We got to see a lot of small villages in a single day, and got a good sampling of the areas outside of the city of Amsterdam. Our guide was funny and made sure we got to see all of the scenic spots.

I took the “Charm” tour to the countryside north of Amsterdam yesterday. We walked through the cute towns of Edam and Marken. There was plenty of time to get good photos. We saw bakery and cheese factory demos in Volendam, had a nice lunch in Marken with a wooden shoe making demo. The 20 minute boat ride from Volendam to Marken was pleasant, and we toured the inside of a working windmill at our last stop. There were lots of children on the tour (elementary through high school) and they seemed to enjoy all the varied experiences. Our guide, Elsa, was knowledgeable and kept things moving. My only criticism would be to skip the museum in Marken, boring and unnecessary!

This tour really delivered. It really gave you a sense of life in the smaller picturesque towns. We got to see some lovely areas, watch how wooden shoes are made (and find out who still uses them today), see how Edam cheese is made, take a ferry ride, and go to some authentic Windmills. It was a very active tour with a lot of walking and stairs, and we were tired when we got back, but very happy we went.

Amsterdam is a very busy place so my daughter and I really enjoyed this tour of the country side. The cheese tasting and boat tour were fabulous and Edame was the most peaceful, beautiful city. We loved walking through it and learning about it. Definitely a tour worth taking.
