After morning hotel pickup in Anchorage, drive south with your guide along Seward Highway — a National Scenic Highway — including the Turnagain Arm, to Mt Alyeska, 4,000 feet (1,219 meters) high. Board an aerial tram that takes you up 2,280 feet (695 meters), and see slopes that receive an average of 54 feet (16 meters) of snow annually. From this height on a clear day, you can see glaciers and the foothills of the Chugach Mountains where they meet the sea at Cook Inlet.

Head back down for lunch at an eatery located in scenic Girdwood. A typical lunch includes soup, sourdough bread, and desserts. (Please notify the operator of any dietary restrictions before the tour.)

After lunch, continue to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, a rescue and rehabilitation organization for Alaska’s wild mammals, including elk and bison, grizzly bears, lynx, eagles, and more.

Your tour ends with return hotel transport. If you’ve signed up for the glacier cruise you will continue on for this portion of your experience.

The views from Alyeska were great and the lunch and experience at the wildlife conservation centre were fun! Keaton was great, very knowledgeable and a friendly guide and made the trip more enjoyable. The portage glacier was closed for the season which was a bummer but the drive and experience was still worth it.

We took this tour on our visit to Anchorage, Alaska last month. Our tour guise was top notch. Very professional, entertaining and very knowledgeable about the things we will see on the tour. It was an interesting tour and we had fun visiting and seeing the glaciers and watching them calve. Great experience. Thank you.

Wildlife Conservation Center, Alyeska tram/Glacier Viewing & Portage Glacier

Much of the tour is in a van, which is perfect for stopping to get out quickly to sightsee. The Wildlife Center has acres filled with the animals you would have hoped to see in the wild--wood bison, caribou, musk ox, an eagle saved after being shot, black-tailed deer, bear, and foxes. These animals had to be in captivity due to circumstances. The tram ride in the Chugach Mtns to see glaciers was exciting. Our most enjoyable part of the tour was Portage Glacier. Spectacular to see a recently calved chunk of glacier and the waterfalls down the mountains. Narrated by a park ranger, but our Salmonberry guide, Joan, gave us so much additional information & cool tidbits.

El tour es bastante completo. Conoces varias cosas y lugares interesantes. Me gusto mucho. El crucero es lindo, ves el glaciar muy cerca y en el parque nacional, ves a los bizones, osos, alces y otros animales muy cerca. Nuestro guia Brendon muy amable.
