Too dangerous to travel on to the rim. I would have liked to of seen molten lava within the volcano.

Great trip. Shuttle was on time at 6am, picked us up and dropped us off from the hostel. Tour guide Lionel made the trip up Pacaya enjoyable. Definitely recommend.

The Volcano itself is amazing and the hike is quite enjoyable too. Be aware that you will need to be a little in shape to enjoy it, otherwise you'll find yourself needing a horse for the hike up, which will cost you extra of course, and the horse wranglers will try to take advantage of you without a doubt. If you do get a horse, negotiate the price for a round trip. If you don't, they will argue that the price they gave you was only for one way, and will try to charge you double for the way down. Aside from that, the Volcano is beautiful and the molten rock and ash are a sight to behold, like something out of a sci-fi film on another planet. The drive from Antigua might be awful depending on the driver, ours was intense, but if you like thrills, enjoy!
