The original Apache Trail was a footpath that the local native Americans used to traverse the Superstition Mountains. As western expansion took hold, the footpath became a stage coach trail for miners and mountaineers in search of their fortunes, and later it earned the first ‘Historic Highway’ destination in Arizona.
During your full-day tour of the Apache Trail, relax and take in the scenery on a 6-mile narrated nature cruise on Canyon Lake aboard a legendary steamboat. Look for big horn sheep, bald eagles and other desert animals, and admire the lake’s volcanic cliffs, which stand as high as 1,300 feet (396 meters).
Visit the ghost town of Goldfield, founded in 1892 and named for the precious metal found in the area. A hub of the region’s gold mining operations for five years, it quickly declined when the ore ran out. Nowadays the town offers western-themed attractions such as panning for gold, displays of authentic mining gear at Goldfield’s Historic Museum, and tales about female pioneers of the 1800’s at Lu Lu’s Bordello.
After your steamboat ride, visit Tortilla Flat and Fish Creek Hill in the Superstition Wilderness. Once a stagecoach stop, Tortilla Flat retains a quirky charm, in evidence in its motto ‘The Town Too Tough To Die’ and a festively decorated saloon. From Fish Creek Hill, enjoy a stunning vantage point over the Sonoran Desert and Superstition Wilderness.
Your guide fills you in on the legends of the Lost Dutchman Mine, along with plenty of information about the region’s history, geography and wildlife, including rare animals and edible plants.

At the end of your full-day tour, your guide returns you to your Phoenix-area hotel.

We had a great time! Our tour guide Dave was knowledgeable and we learned so much from him about the area. The boat ride on Canyon Lake was amazing and beautiful. I would highly recommend this tour.

AMAZING!! This tour through the Superstition Mountains was breathtaking. As we drove to Canyon Lake the views are stunning and the Dolly Cruise is fantastic. Our guide Montana was wonderful and made the entire trip that much better by sharing information about the desert and the local stories!

Pick up was on time tour vehicle was comfortable and the guide informative. The planned stops were as advertised. The Dolly boat ride was very interesting for the area we saw some desert wildlife. This is a good way to get a Apachie trail tour without the hassle of driving.

The landscapes are great, but the tour could have been much better.

First of all, pickup was 20 mns late, and we accumulated another 30 mns while waiting the others: They shown up with a I just woke up face 30 mns after the bus arrived to their hotel. As a consequence, we skipped Tortilla Flat and Fish Creek. Unacceptable, I paid for it and didn't get it.

We started the tour with 2 stops, one in the Apache trail on a small walk that goes inside the desert to learn about the vegetation. That was great watch out for the jumping cactuses!. Another stop above the lake with a great view.

Then we arrived at the lake, and embarked for the boat tour. To be honest, the landscapes in the canyon are great, but the boat is boooooooooooooooooooring. Only elderly people, 30's music, clichés everywhere I felt like I was watching the typical humoristic US TV shows. The boat tour lasts really too long 1h30, it eats half of your journey.

Then we headed to the Goldfield ghost town. That was the best place of the journey, unfortunately due to the late we had only 1 hour there to visit and to eat This is where we skipped the Flat Tortilla, because we were supposed to eat at Tortilla and have a full, real, hour to spend in the ghost town. 1 hour and really short, we spent half of this time to eat and the remaining to visit. There are many things to do there, but we didn't have the time to gold prospecting, mine tour, snakes tour, etc....

Then we came back to the hotels. As a conclusion, the boat was the worse part and I would have preferred more adventure, more trail you don't even walk any trail and less seating in a boat or a van.

This is a must trip for anyone traveling to Phoenix. Our guide David had a great knowledge of the Apache Trail, Superstition Mountain and the lore surrounding the area. The boat ride on Canyon Lake was spectacular. We were lucky enough to see bald eagles and mountain goats.

The tour guide was great. The tour van was terrible! I've never heard a vehicle rattle that much. It was really a substandard vehicle. My son had to move to the front seat because the noise in the back was giving him a headache.

This is an excellent tour and our driver, Paul, was full of information and stories that brought the area to life. The trip also includes an hour and a half ride on the paddle boat, Dolly, on Canyon Lake. I would give the tour 5 stars except that the pickup time was more than 2 hours later than advertised, and the day felt rushed. For example we were served lunch just 3 or 4 minutes before we were supposed to board the paddle boat. Otherwise we learned a lot about the history and geography of the area and really enjoyed a short walk with Paul as he explained the different types of cactus and desert plants.

awesome trip. We took our 9 year grandson and we were amazed how much he enjoyed it. Thanks to Jason M. our tour guide, for taking the time to answer his questions and for making sure to include him in conversations. We originally planned on driving ourselves but after seeing the road, we were glad to leave the driving to the tour operator. The excursion on the Dolly paddle boat up the canyon was a truly a magical experience dinosaur fossils, and petrified logs, oh my! Kids from about 8 to 12 or so are perfect companions on this tour.
