Dorina Katsadorak was the tour guide. She walked us along streets and places we would never have seen if it hadn't been for her. She gave much interesting information. Besides the shops displaying their wares, we stopped at an old church and rested in a park. Could not have asked for a more enjoyable esperience.
What a great food tour! Our tour guide, Despina, was fantastic-incredibly knowledgeable and informative about Athens, its history and food culture she displayed a real passion for good food and its place in Athens life-which was both irrestible and infectious! As always, the tour was a great way of getting an introduction to a new city and to meet interesting people from around the world. We cannot recommend this tour highly enough.
Highlight of my Mediterranean trip! So much fun poking around the local markets, bakeries, spice shops and learning about the Greek way of life off the beaten tourista track. Our tour guide was knowledgeable, friendly and super pleasant. Picked up some amazing local ingredients to bring home including some amazing saffron and Greek Mountain Oregano and sampled so much food and drink! Only thing I would recommend it opting for them to pick you up instead of meeting the group - I missed that option when booking and had one heck of a time getting from the port to the meeting place on time!
We were in Europe for about 10 days, and this food tour was easily one of the highlights. Dorina was incredibly knowledgeable, spoke English very well, and provided fantastic insight to the history and culture of Athens. The food was great, the drinks were great, and length of the tour was great. We even brought home some of the things she had us try!
The knowledgeable guide took us on a walking tour of areas that were safe but though which I would have never ventured alone. We strolled through the giant food halls meat, fish, fruit. Our guide then took us to many small shops for sampling of various commonplace Greek food, including olive oil tasting. This tour was one of more interesting tours of my entire cruise/land experience. You do not have to be young to take part, just young at heart and able to walk well over uneven terrain of Athens city for a few hours. We also got a food/history lesson along the way.
Well worth it! The whole family enjoyed this tour. Went to local restaurants and shops representing a range of Greek food. Feel like we got the BEST representative taste of everything. Guide provided a nice mix of history and cultural background about the foods we were tasting. Full at the end!
Our guide Doreena was great. Informative, friendly and professional. We loved the tour eapecially all the markets. Souvlaki was great too. A terrific way to spend a morning in Athens
We loved this tour and it really mad us appreciate Greece in a whole new light. Our tour guide was interesting, approachable and was really warm. She made us love Athens, the food, the people and the culture. We tasted olive oils, yoghurts, feta, spoon swets, olives, typical lunches, yuros, and much more!
Artemis was amazing! We really enjoyed her perspective as a native Athenian. We got to know some unique aspects of Greek cuisine and just had allot of fun. Couldn and #39;t recommend this tour more, especially just to get acquainted with the city!
We did this tour on our full first day in Athens and thought it was great! We learned about local foods, tried things that we may not have tried otherwise, and went back to the places later on in our stay. The tour was great! Highly recommend doing this and doing it early on in your stay.
What a great surprise!!! I had visited Athens before and wanted to try something new...the great news is that the tour was over the top, the slightly bad news is that I did not tell my Boyfriend ahead of time, that I had booked this tour. Cranky at first, He was raving about it by the end of the day....a true testament to a 5 star tour.
The walking tour of Markets, Spice houses, Bakeries, Traditional Specialties, and stories of the food as it relates to the culture of the people was so amazingly interesting. There were fantastic tastings, maybe too many by the end of the afternoon, but everything was so memorable......our group of three couples on the tour made it great fun for everyone :
The tour was great and well organized. The ladies who ran the tour were welcoming and knowledgeable. The place we met in the morning was easy to find. We wouldn't have known all the places we visited on our own for sure. The tour ended near the flea market, which we spent a little time there after the tour. Overall, highly recommended!
This was a great experience and a nice break from looking at all the ancient edifices. We were a small group of nine and our guide, Vicky, able and expertly led us through interesting parts of Athens that we'd not have found on our own. We visited a lot of wonderful markets and shops and had lots of tastes of a lot of items that help make up Greek Cuisine. Vicky was charming, informative and had a good sense of humor. I would highly recommend this tour!
Great tour , great guide. Saw many interesting markets and learned a lot.
Fantastic experience, for kids and adults both. One of our highlights in Athens. Loved Dorina, our guide.
We had a blast on the food tour. We went places that we would never have found on our own. We ate things that we might never have tried. This was our last activity in Greece. It was a great way to end our vacation!
Wonderful tour! The ladies were very welcoming and I would def go again! Great time and great food!
Vicky was our group's guide and she was excellent. We experienced a fascinating morning filled with Greek foods, markets, and culture. Lots of samples and sights! I was thrilled to be exposed to unique flavors and ideas and although I bought some things, I never felt obligated to buy. You can participate without spending extra, but you may want to. :- I especially enjoyed discovering some of the medicinal herbs/oils. Later I took my husband back to many of the places using the tour map and we enjoyed them all over again. Wonderful experience with an outstanding and sweet guide. Highly recommend.
Artemis was our guide in this food tour and she was enchanting. She introduce us to the real Athenians food. we loved this tour.
An excellent tour with Vicky. Her knowledge is second to none and the importance of Greek cuisine in society became very obvious. The selection of places we were taken and the wide variety of foods we tried were amazing and I thoroughly reccommend this tour if you have any interest in seeing an authentic side of Athens. There's history and politics involved as you learn how food is central to Greek culture and you'll see places that you might not otherwise visit as a tourist, but which certainly warrant a reurn trip at lesiure to sample their products more widely.
Please note, you WON'T need breakfast and you may want a snooze by the time you've finished! A perfect Saturday morning...
The tours gives a different perspective to the history of Greece through the cuisine, traditions, changes, influences of different important events. Despina is very knowledgable and makes sure every traveller is treated with care. Food tasted has been delicious.
AMAZING!!!! Best tour ever. We visited so many interesting and tasty places, and learned so much about the food. It was an easy walk, even in the cold, and the food and guide were outstanding! Our guide was Dorina Katsadoraki and she was superb!! She told us interesting facts, took us to interesting places, and gave us time to shop or by things at places we visited --such as the amazing spice shop and little grocery. Well worth the price! Make sure you do this tour when in Athens.
