Be immersed in New Zealand’s indigenous 'tikanga' (culture) on this Auckland shore excursion with a knowledgeable Maori guide. Travel through the countryside and rainforest of the Waitakere Ranges on a small-group tour outside the North Island city, including Mt. Victoria and the west coast. You’ll watch a live Haka (war dance) performance at the Auckland Museum and learn firsthand about Maori cultural heritage dating back hundreds of years. Snacks, beverages, and lunch are included along with port pickup and drop-off.
  • Explore Auckland's sites through the eyes of a Maori guide
  • See a live performance of a world-famous Haka War Dance
  • See the surrounding countryside, including Te Wao Nui o Tiriwa (the ancient forest of Tiriwa), also called the Waitakere Ranges
  • Intimate small-group tour including a lunch
  • Covered by Viator's worry-free policy: guaranteed on-time return to your ship
When your cruise ship pulls into port in Auckland, join a Maori-guided small-group tour and see the sights through an indigenous lens. After port pickup, you’ll travel to the Waitakere Ranges for a bush walk in the ancient subtropical rainforest. Learn about flora and fauna native to Tamaki Makaurau— the Auckland region—and discover their significance via a Maori worldview.

Your full-day sightseeing tour includes snacks, beverages, and lunch along with a stroll along the black-sand beaches and windswept cliffs of the North Island’s west coast.

Follow up with a visit to Devonport, where Patuone, one of the chief negotiators of the Treaty of Waitangi is buried. Here, your guide shares anecdotes about the Maori leaders who signed Aotearoa’s/New Zealand’s founding document in 1840.

Also explore scenic Tamaki Drive, a coastal road that skims Waitemata Harbour. Your tour also includes a Maori cultural performance at Auckland Museum that includes the Haka war dance. Your small-group tour ends with port drop-off.

Worry-free Shore Excursion: We will ensure your timely return to the Auckland port of this activity. In the rare event that your ship has departed, we will arrange for transportation to the next port-of-call. If your ship is delayed and you are unable to attend this activity, your money will be refunded. See our terms and conditions for full details.

I was expecting more Maori...
, Mar 2018
I was expecting more Maori experience from this tour. All we did was go to the museum and see a cultural performance. Otherwise, we visited different parts of Auckland. The trip to the black sand beach was nice and so was the afternoon treat of kiwi juices, ANZAC biscuits marmite and different types of honey. Sofia was a very good tour guide. I just wish we saw much more of the Maori culture.
