The best thing we did is that we went early morning before the crowd. We had to wake up really early but it was worth it. The place is amazing we took all our time with a small group you can take all the pictures you want. After we had the most delicious breakfast and drinks. This was the highlight of our trip to NZ.

This is the only way to see the Hobbiton movie set. Our guide Tony was very informative, friendly, and helpful. Being able to access the movie set before it is flooded with tourists taking in the beauty being untouched for the day not to mention having people in your pictures. Access to Hobbit holes not on the normal tour and breakfast in the Green Dragon Inn was an added bonus. Highly recommend this tour to anyone serious about a quality experience.
This is worth every penny. Our small group was the first to enter the Hobbiton movie set and remained in front of the pack of tourists behind us. Plenty of time was allowed for pictures and the tour guide was informative and happy to help with pictures. Very good quality breakfast at the Green Dragon and bonus facts about New Zealand from our driver. Would've liked a little more time at the Green Dragon instead of a stop on the way back to Auckland for ice cream.
I really enjoyed it. Our guide, Wayne, was a character, but very informed not just about the set, but about the countryside and farming practices we saw along the way. The set itself is charming and more extensive than I expected. Standing there looking at the beautiful surrounding countryside, with not a phone wire or highway in sight, you really feel like you could be in the Shire.
This is the only way to see Hobbiton! Our driver was friendly and personable. Once we arrived at the movie set our tour guide there was excellent. Early Access means plenty of time to stop and take photos. We didn and #39;t feel rushed and the breakfast was excellent.
This tour was evenmore enjoyable than I thought it would be.Our driver Alexander was extremely knowledgeable about New Zealand as well as the Tour itself. Jordan was our guide and she was excellent. I was blessed in that we had only 6 people total on our tour and all of them were friendly and well versed in the movies. This made the tour so enjoyable. The weather held off the rain until we were all finished the tour and at the green dragon having our elevenzees meal. The food was great and we had plently to each plus a drink: choice of one of two beers, or cider or soft drink. I don't know what the tour is like in the summer but the day I went was so enjoyable. I would recommend this tour for anyone who loves the Hobbit movies or Lord of the rings. money well spent.
This trip was excellent! We were glad we did the early entry as the tour was was very personal! The driver was terrific and our tour guide was really informative!
Fabulous tour taken and brilliant driver and tour guide. I had an amazing experience taking this tour.

My brother and I really enjoyed this tour. It's worth every penny, especially if you're a huge LOTR fan. Our guide going to and from Hobbiton, Alexander, was very friendly and knowledgeable. We learned a lot, not just about Hobbiton about New Zealand in general. He even recommended places for us to visit when he learned we were going to other parts of NZ.
I've forgotten the name of our guide in Hobbiton itself, but she was very accomodating. Some of the tidbits you learn during the tour is mindblowing. You'll learn how much of a mad genius Peter Jackson is. The place itself is beautiful. I particularly liked the small details included in each of the Hobbit houses.
By the way, make room for lunch because it is fantastic.
A really great tour! Although expensive, it was worth it! Dawn, our driver from Bush and Beach, was very warm. And our guide at Hobbiton, Leah, was the best! She made sure our family had enough time to take pictures at each hobbit hole - she would tell the group before us to move on to give us time to have each house all to our own. And, the meal served at Green Dragon was sumptuous!!!
We had a great day at the Hobbiton Movie Set we were the first on the set and didn't have to fight crowds. We had a fantastic guide who knew everything about Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit and the move sets at the Hobbitation. We had the best food at our brunch at the Green Dragoon. It was a great experience!
It may considered a bit 'pricey', but for the experience you have, it isn't. Picked up from our hotel in Auckland at 6am by our driver for the day, Tony. Whose enthusiasm for this tour is obvious. Nine of us went on this tour and everyone raved about it. We even had the opportunity of going into Bag End for a photo looking out. Lunch in the Green Dragon in our own area was great, and then some Tip Top ice cream on the way back. If your a Lord Of the Rings fan this is well worth it.

This was an excellent trip. The early tour of Hobbiton before the crowds was great and we got to see
some areas that the general tour does not. Also, the breakfast was wonderful, and such a great setting -
the Green Dragon's Inn. Our driver was very helpful and made the trip unrushed and even more enjoyable. I would definitely do this again.
Absolutely worth the early morning start! The experience was amazing and being able to go through with such a small group gave us plenty of time for all the photos we wanted. Breakfast at the Green Dragon too!
I am so happy we paid extra to do this tour. It is worth it! Dawn our driver and Keiron our guide were amazing, I cannot say enough good things about them. The group is a small private tour with breakfast at the end. Food was great, I have never laughed so much on tour before!! Given you are the first group to arrive at the set you get loads of time to take photos and great shots too as there are no crowds blocking your shots. So glad I did this!
This tour was the main reason why I extended my layover in Auckland and it was worth it!
Our driver was great and picked my sister and I up promptly from our hotel. We were then joined by three others and began our two hour drive to the farm. Along the way we learned the history of New Zealand and the landmarks we passed by. It was so informative and I really appreciated knowing more about where I was.
Our tour guide was fantastic! The weather was perfect and we got to take our time going through the set before the general tours came through. The breakfast they served us at the end was delicious and the ice cream was a great way to end the day!
Seeing the Shire is a must for any Lord of the Rings/Hobbit fan and this Early Access tour is the only way to see it!
This trip was AMAZING! Although a long day, the driver was very personable and fun. There were two stops along the way before and after for stretching, bathroom, and food! It was so worth waking up early because we were the first ones on the set! No people in your way for photos, a fresh and rested guide, and the sheer beauty of the unspoiled sight! After the unrushed tour, the lunch was fantastic along with the beer! My only complaint would be that it would have been nice for the driver and tour guide to have been able to eat lunch with us. I would have liked to gotten to know them a little better!
This is the BEST way to see Hobbiton!!!
Early access is well worth the extra cost!! Great photo opportunities before the BUS CROWDS arrive.
Delicious Green Dragon Breakfast!
Okay, I am assuming while writing this you want to go to Hobbiton but are wondering whether to pay the extra bucks or not. Now, we went on a few tours in New Zealand, as you, the reader, will probably also be doing. A lot of these tours will be to big popular sites and you will be one of a throng of people, only asking for 20 second bursts so you can see something or snap a photograph. Let me tell you this is the ULTIMATE TOUR EXPERIENCE you will get! This is truly an early tour, before anyone else gets in. The tour guide Alexander, who was AWESOME, very smart, and very knowledgable about all aspects of New Zealand - we had long conversations in the van going up and back to Hobbiton, which went on some weird tangents when I asked about such minor and sweeping topics like animal rights activists and the Dunedin music scene told us there's never more than a handful of people who spend the extra money for the early tour, and sure enough there was just my wife and I, the Hobbiton tour guide, and another tourist who were taken all around Hobbiton, all by ourselves. Halfway through the tour the place opened up for real and we saw groups of 20 people start, all snapping pictures and getting in each other's way. NOT SO WITH THE EARLY TOUR! We took our time, I snapped about 200 photos I think! We got to go inside Bilbo's house which the regular tour does not allow, and you see other things not shown to the general public. You can take sweeping landscape photos with no a person in them. Hobbiton is well kept up all the tour guides double as maintenance crew, and sure enough we saw a young lady with a wheelbarrow at one point and was bigger, grander, and more of a spectable than I, a jaded tourist, had thought possible. Alexander was our guide there and back and we had a special Hobbiton guide once we got there who was very very knowledgable about all the minutae our geek group had. Finally: the breakfast ranks as the single best meal of my New Zealand trip!!!!!!!!
Excellent service. Worth paying for. Tour guide and driver were so nice from start to finish. Highly recommended. One of my favourite tour.
Wow, what a tour. Hated getting up so early in the morning but it was worth it. The tour was amazing and we had a great time. Tour guide at the site was amazing! She had so much about the movie etc to share with us. The morning breakfast was immense and loved the room we ate in at the Dragon Restaurant. Far to drive but a great time. Driver/guide was very good.
