What You Can Expect

Private Provence Tour: Luberon Villages and Lavender Day Trip from Avignon

Admire the beautiful lavender fields during your time in Provence

Your morning or afternoon private tour begins with pickup from your Avignon hotel. Take a seat in the comfortable mini-coach and enjoy the passing Provençal landscape, famous for endless lavender fields, as you travel approximately 1.5 hours to the Luberon region.

Listen to interesting commentary from your private guide on the way to your first stop, Oppède-le-Vieux. Upon arrival in this historic rocky village, stretch your legs with a light stroll through the medieval streets. Snap photos of the striking 12th-century collegiate church, lovely restored homes and the ruins of an ancient chateau.

Afterward, head to beautiful Roussillon, a hilltop village within the Parc Naturel Régional du Luberon, marked for its brilliant red stone buildings. Learn about the town’s unique mining history as you view the Sentier des Ocres (Ochre Path), painted in shades of red and yellow. Then continue to Gordes, one of France’s most gorgeous villages. Composed of white stone, this ancient town seems to rise straight from the earth. As you walk the narrow cobblestone streets, take in the scenery that inspired artists like Pablo Picasso and Peter Mayle, author of A Year in Provence

Arrive next at the Lavender Museum in Coustellet (closed in January). Here, learn more about the tradition and cultivation of lavender farming in Provence and discover the many versatile products that are infused with iconic French flowers. Don’t leave without stopping by the museum shop to purchase some fragrant oils and cosmetics products to take home.

Your 4-hour tour ends with drop-off at your Avignon hotel by early afternoon or evening.

Note: Depending on your tour day, you’ll also stop by the markets of Gordes (Tuesdays) or Roussillon (Thursdays).

This was a really fun tour with a great guide. We visited small villages and toured the lavender museum. We were early for the full lavender blooms but it was still beautiful and I would highly recommend this tour.

Wonderful tour! The guide was very helpful and told us a lot about the region. The villages are the MUSTS to see!

5 star rating: Highly Recommended December 2013

We had an excellent time with this tour on 10 September 2013. Our guide, Julian (not sure about the exact spelling of his name), made it all worth while. He was prompt, informative, and accommodating in the schedule and the sites we visited in order to insure we got the most of our experience. We especially wanted to maximize out visit to Gordes in order to visit the market day there, and he helped us to do so. He helped us to learn all about the surrounding Avignon area and was especially good at pointing out the "sites" and providing background. We truly enjoyed this and would recommend any other customers to particularly request Julian. Thanks, Julian.

Very professionally handled. Our driver was delightful and prompt. I only wish she had offered her opinion of the time constraints on our itinerary. Had I had a better sense of the drive time vs visit time, I would have eliminated a stop and not felt so rushed.
