What You Can Expect

Provence Lavender Small Group Half-Day Trip

Depending on the time of the season, visit the village of Roussillon on your half-day tour

Your morning or afternoon small-group tour begins with pickup from your Avignon hotel. Take a seat in the comfortable minivan and admire the scenery as you traverse the Provençal countryside, laced with fields of lavender. Your guide will make frequent stops, giving you plenty of opportunity to take photos.

Visitors on the 4-hour morning tour will make a stop in Sault, Roussillon or Gordes; your guide will choose whichever town offers the most abundant blooms of the moment. In town, you’ll visit the village’s lavender markets and purchase authentic local products from flowers to lavender-scented honey and essential oils.

If you opt for the 5-hour evening tour, you’ll have additional time in the village to independently explore, after which you’ll head to the Lavender Museum in Coustellet. En route, pass through the sweet Provençal villages of St Jean and Lioux. At the museum, learn more about the tradition and cultivation of lavender farming in Provence and discover the many versatile products that are infused with lavender flowers.

Your tour ends with drop-off at your Avignon hotel by early afternoon or evening, depending on start time.

Please note: This tour is seasonal and runs from June to August only.

Our guide Julien was very helpful, nice, funny and knowledgeable of the area. He took us to the best looking lavender fields, and even made a photo stop in Gordes even though it wasn't on his list. He was also very helpful in giving tips about other places to visit in Avignon and the tour was very agreeable.

Erica did a great job of balancing time in the lavender fields and time in the village market in Gordes. The fields were beautiful and she provided thorough descriptions of the history of the region and of the lavender growing process. Highly recommend!

Due to the lavender season being early in 2015 a lot of the fields had already been harvested when we were there but our guide, Julien, took us to two fields which were still blooming and beautiful - one of which had a spectacular view of the village of Aurel as a backdrop.
We had a half hour stop in the village of Sault just long enough to buy some lavender based gifts at a better price than we would have found them in Avignon.
As we had not hired a car during our stay in Avignon, this tour gave us the opportunity to see some of the countryside and mountains in the area.
