Wheelchair accessible as long as you can get up the bus steps

I booked this trip as it said it was wheelchair accessible. However, the bus does not have a ramp or lift & so my wife had to get up the steps onto the bus on her bottom & haul herself into the seat, however they did reserve the front seat for us so she didn't have the indignity of shuffling down the bus on her bottom & the driver lifted her folding scooter in & out of the bus. The guide was excellent and gave us a commentary all along the journey, telling us interesting facts about what we could see out of the windows. We had to wait a while at the border while the authorities checked our passports etc, but didn't have to leave the bus during this. We drove around Famagusta & saw some abandoned old buildings, then stopped near a cathedral that had been converted to a mosque, where we had an hour to look round. My wife was able to get close to the cathedral but not go in as there were kerbs. There was also the old city walls which she couldn't climb, but there was a pretty garden nearby that was accessible & I guess we could have gone into the castle if we had wanted to but didn't bother as you had to pay to go in & we didn't have a lot of time there. We then got back onto the bus & journeyed on through the mountains to Kyrenia, with the guide continuing her interesting commentary. We parked near the monastery & there was a bit of a walk up a hill road up to the monastery. There were quaint shops at the side of the road, but we didn't take the time to go in. The monastery is partly ruined but very pretty & there are icons & chandeliers inside, it is in an elevated position over the town & there are great views over the town. After the monastery we got back on the bus & went into the town, where we stopped in a car park & had some time to ourselves. The guide advised me to ask which restaurants had an accessible loo as the one at the monastery had steps, but wife couldn't wait so left her scooter with me at the top of a long flight of steps down to the public loo & went down on her bottom. A kind woman helped her at the bottom. We made our way down the road to the harbour as we couldn't follow the guide due to steps, but it wasn't far & the harbour is pretty & surrounded by tavernas, the waiter for the first taverna offered us a loo without steps as part of his sales pitch. We had a lovely meal there overlooking the harbour then returned to the bus & enjoyed the trip back. Overall we would highly recommend this excursion.
