Receive a morning pickup from your accommodations in Bagan. Before proceeding to the archaeological site, make a short stop at a local market to explore the fruits and vegetables typically grown in the region. Some of Bagan’s produce comes from areas further north, offering additional insight into the country’s agricultural products.
Head from the market to your first Bagan temple stop at Shwezigon Pagoda, an 11th century religious shrine built by King Anawrahta. You’ll also get to investigate Ku Byauk Gyi Temple, a religious structure renowned for its murals of the “Jataka” scenes. Proceed from there to Lei Thee Pagoda, one of the best-preserved of the area temples and also a great viewing location to enjoy vistas of the entire archaeological site. Finish your morning by visiting the Ananda Temple, known for its four standing Buddha figures.
After a break for an included set-menu lunch, spend the afternoon doing some shopping and, of course, discovering more temples. Head to nearby Myinkaba village to check out a laquerware workshop and perhaps even purchase a souvenir of your own. Then continue to Manuha Temple, built in 1059 using the “Mon style,” and then on to Nanbaya Temple, a sandstone palace that was once the home of King Manuha.
Finish the day with an amazing sunset view from the top of either Bupaya Pagoda or Shwe San Daw Pagoda, marveling at the golden orange light that sets the temple complex aflame in the late-afternoon sun. Please note that climbing these two temples involves sets of steep stairs. After sunset you’ll receive a drop-off back at your Bagan accommodations.

Our guide Khin Thin Swe was an absolute delight. We had such a wonderful time Thanks to Khin. She was extremely knowledgable, patient, polite and so kind and thoughtful! I truly believe it would not have been the same without Khin! We visited Shwezigon Pagoda, Ananda Temple and the gorgeous Htilominlo Temple. We also visited the 1000 year old reclining buddha and had a wonderful experience walking through the old market. Lunch was at a very beautiful restaurant with very tasty food. We ended our tour watching the sunset but sadly it was a hazey evening. Be sure to request for Khin Thin Swe from Asian Trails. You can customize the tour to your liking. She was very open to suggestions. I highly recommend this tour.
