What You Can Expect

Kicking Horse River Whitewater Rafting

Kicking Horse River Whitewater Rafting

Take a heart-pumping ride through the Class 4+ rapids of Kicking Horse River on this wet-and-wild half-day white water excursion. Whether you’re an adrenaline junkie or just looking for a fun way to cool off, this rafting trip is sure to please.

Start your day with an optional pickup from select hotels in Canmore, Lake Louise or Banff, which starts at 9am or 1pm depending on the time of year. Check with your tour operator for exact schedule. If you haven't selected the pickup option, make your own way through the picturesque Yoho National Park to the Kicking Horse put-in site in Golden, approximately 1.5 hours west of Banff. Before you jump in the boat, meet your river guides and get outfitted with necessary rafting gear.

From there, head out on the river, starting with a relatively calm stretch to allow you to get acquainted with your guides’ commands, paddle and boat. Soon the Canyon narrows and the true excitement begins, taking you on pulse-pounding trip through the thrills and spills of the river’s Class 4+ white water.

Finish your rafting odyssey 12 miles (20 kilometers) downstream, where you’ll disembark the raft for a welcome BBQ lunch (provided after AM tours and before PM tours), complete with vegetarian options. At the end of your meal, receive an optional drop-off back in Canmore, Lake Louise or Banff, or make your own way home.

This was the best decision of our vacation in Banff! The tour guide, Dave, was very experienced and very nice. He made sure that we all felt safe, but had a great time. The rapids were exciting but it always felt like he had everything under control. The facilities were very nice - there were changing rooms to get in and out of your swimsuit and wet suit. We were worried about being cold, but they provide you with all the gear and cover-ups you need so you are actually very comfortable and even welcomed the cold splash of glacier water in your face! Highly recommend this trip as a great way to see beautiful sights and experience some thrills!

Excellent day even though it was raining and cold so we got wet from above as well as from the river. Be prepared to put effort in usually required at the hardest spots of the river. Good safety instructions. BBQ lunch was burger or vegetable burger with salad, coleslaw etc. Absolutely fine for this sort of activity. The bus drive from Banff to venue is over 90 minutes and the bus is a little old. Changing facilities are also very basic, annoyingly some ladies decided to get changed afterwards in the toilets, why do they have to do that!

We had a brilliant time, wish we could have done the add on time at the end but unfortunately had to get the bus back to Banff, next time we will make our own way there and do the extra time.
Could have done with seeing the guide at the end of the trip so that we could tip him personally he did a great job.
