Your tour begins with an 11am pickup from your central Bangalore hotel and a short transfer to the martial arts school. Traveling onboard a comfortable minibus with your small group of up to 15 people, listen as your guide offers a brief introduction to Kalaripayattu, one of the world’s oldest martial arts.
On arrival, meet with a 'Kalari Gurukkal' (a Kalaripayattu master or guru) to learn more about the mysterious art form, before being entertained by a high-energy performance conducted by the guru’s disciples. Prepare to be dazzled by impressive displays of bare hand combat; watch as the warriors wield traditional wooden weapons, daggers and swords; and see the notorious ‘urumi’, a flexible whip-like sword, in action. Hear how experienced Kalaripayattu fighters can disable or kill their opponents by merely touching the correct ‘marmam’ (vital point) on an enemy’s body, but don’t worry – no one will be hurt during the demonstrations!
After a thrilling performance, join your hosts in the treehouse for a traditional ‘Kerala Sadya’ feast, a banquet served on banana leaves according to ancient rituals. Sample a delicious spread of more than 14 ‘payasams’ (freshly-prepared vegetarian dishes), accompanied by rice.
With your appetite sated, return to Bangalore, where your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel around 2pm.
