What You Can Expect

Ayutthaya Day Trip from Bangkok Including River Cruise and Lunch

Wat Mahatat

Your day trip from Bangkok to Ayutthaya provides an opportunity to get out of the city and learn a bit about Thai history. Stroll around the World Heritage–listed ruins of this once-magnificent city, following your guide past weather-worn sites such as monasteries and pointed prang, a type of temple tower.

You’ll get an idea of the city’s past glory as you visit Wat Maha Tat, a large Buddhist temple complex home to headless Buddha statues and the remnants of royal villas and religious structures. Of particular interest is the large Buddha head entangled in the roots of a tree. Then check out Bang Pa-In Royal Palace, once used by Thai kings. Admire the colorful roof tiles, gold and green temples, ornate porticos, marble statues and elaborate stupas.

As you reach the edge of the Chao Phraya River, board your cruise along the waterway, heading back toward Bangkok. Enjoy a meal of Thai specialties on the boat while you take in the passing scenery of the lush countryside, which gradually transitions into the city.

A great guide who was very well informed with the history of the ancient city of Ayutthaya. The River Cruise home was so pleasant. A wonderful day that I would recommend.

Well organised tour. Great tour guide who was informative and very engaging. Attractions and transport just as I'd hoped and expected. Lunch was delicious. A great value for money day trip.

bigger group of 28 people meant pick up at 6:30 but going to central collection point to be assigned to real outbound coach only around 8am-nobody on vacation is keen on this. Tour guide was extremely sticky to keep group together at all points and hence individual time granted was just some 5-10min by location-you need to like this approach. Sure you get more info on background, but ....not my cup of tea clearly and did not go with it. Same procedure upon return for drop off, taking you at least one hour to get to your hotel as stepping out in 5min walking distance is not permitted. Overall light chance to see local market, followed by Kings Palace and ancient city-you spend most time on cruise incl lovely lunch buffet other than see too much about places indicated. overall trip for me was bit disappointment

1 star rating: I do not recommend this January 2017

The tour guide was trying to sell us Chinese medicinal herbs the entire time. It was so unprofessional. The entire commentary while driving was a sales pitch for these herbs. There was little/no information on the history or locations we were passing thru. A complete and total waste of money. The entire day was spent in a tourist trap. AWFUL! Needless to say we found our own way back to the hotel.
