Overview

Travel like the locals do—by tuk-tuk—on a half-day sightseeing tour of Bangkok. With an informative guide, hop aboard a motorized rickshaw and see the highlights of the Thai capital including the Amulet Market, the Reclining Buddha at Wat Pho, and Wat Saket (Golden Mount). This small-group tour operates with a maximum of 12 passengers for a more personalized experience.
  • Travel the backstreets of Bangkok by tuk-tuk as you explore Bangkok
  • Visit the Phra Sumera Fortress, Amulet Market, Wat Pho, and the colorful flower market
  • English-speaking local guide
  • Traveling in a small group, maximum 12 passengers allowing a unique and intimate experience
Meet your guide and small group at a central meeting point and climb aboard a 3-wheeled auto-rickshaw, or tuk-tuk, for your tour of Bangkok. Head down the back streets of the bustling city to Phra Sumera Fortress and Amulet Market.

Listen as your guide explains the significance of Buddhist amulets, charms and traditional medicines in Thai culture, before continuing on to Wat Saket, also known as the Golden Mount, which dates back to the Ayutthaya era. If you wish, climb the 318 steps to the top of the Golden Mount for panoramic views of historical Bangkok.

Visit Pak Khlong Talad, Bangkok’s 24-hour flower market where you see vendors with huge piles of jasmine garlands, orchids and lotus flowers used in traditional Thai worship.

Your final stop is Wat Pho, home to the largest reclining Buddha image in Bangkok, Wat Pho was the country’s first public university and still functions as a center of learning for traditional Thai massage and medicines.

From here, you can continue exploring on your own or your guide assists you in getting a taxi back to your hotel.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Amulet Market
There is probably nothing quite as iconic in Asia as the beloved tuk tuk. Picture the streets of any city or town in this part of the world and they would be empty without at least a dozen of these awesome little buggies. A ride on a tuk tuk is undoubtedly one of the best things to do in Bangkok, and completely necessary to make you feel like a local. Avoid the tuk tuk tour scams that permeate the city and join our authentic local experience instead. To really get to know Bangkok culture and daily life in Thailand, you need to get yourself this ultimate tuk tuk experience, the Bangkok day tour with a twist! You’ll dig right into this Bangkok tuk tuk tour by riding one from the very start. Your local guide will ride along with you and you’ll whizz through the busy streets of Bangkok, stopping at the marvellous Phra Sumeru Fortress, where you’ll learn a bit about the history behind this area. Next stop on the tuk tuk ride is the Amulet Market, where locals sell all kinds of traditional Thai amulets, charms, and medicines. Your local guide will explain the significance of all these mysterious items and what part they play in Thai culture. Knick-knacks and spooky bits and bobs have all kinds of different meanings in Thailand, from good luck to warding off evil. Instead of having that quizzical look on your face about what they mean, your guide will give you the local lowdown.

Stop At:
Ban Bat
We'll walk through the small community of Ban Baat who have been making alms bowls for monks by hand since the late 1700s. In Thai Buddhism monks traditionally walk through the local community at dawn to collect alms (donations of food) so an alms bowl is an essential accessory. These days most monk's bowls are factory made, but there are a handful of families here who are preserving the traditional methods. We'll stop to meet one family who will give you the chance to try your hand at whichever stage of bowl-making they happen to be at on the day, it could be hammering in the pattern or polishing the finished surface.

Stop At:
Pak Khlong Talat (Flower Market)
Moving on with this market tour in Bangkok, you’ll head to Pak Khlong Talat, or the flower market. This is the biggest flower market in Thailand and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Many different types of flowers are shipped here, and the market acts as a distribution centre, transferring flowers to other cities throughout the country

Stop At:
Wat Phra Chetuphon
Onwards on your tuk tuk you’ll go, towards Wat Pho, the temple that houses the biggest and most beautiful reclining Buddha image in the country and is also the birthplace of Thai massage and medicines. Your local guide will take you on a tour of the area, and fill you in on the local stories about one of the most fascinating parts of Bangkok. This temple is one of those places that should not be missed when you travel to Bangkok! From here you can either continue to explore some more, or your local guide will be happy to point you in the direction of your accommodation. No doubt they’ll recommend you take a tuk tuk back, just to top off this tuk tuk experience perfectly!

The Golden Mount (Wat Saket)
Time for another tuk tuk ride and this time your destination will be Wat Saket, a temple that lies at the foot of the Golden Mount. Your local guide will take you up the 318 steps (sorry, your tuk tuk can’t help you with that one!) to the 360-degree view of the surrounding old Rattanakosin Island, a view which makes the climb totally worth it.

All was organised very efficiently by Viator and the local agent. Communication was great and it was very clear where I had to be and when. Pe-pae was a star. Very friendly, informative and organised. Very professional at all times. This tour was packed with great sights and experiences. I did more on this half-day tour than on a lot of 1 day tours. Definitely worth it. Please ensure that you dress appropriately well covered for the reclining buddha, as a sign of respect and also to ensure you can get in. This tour is a must!

Guide was nice. Tour was overpriced. Basically, they picked a few temples and markets and drove you around in a small area. This tour is worth at most $25. I would not recommend.

This was a good way to see the sights but I think they could have added the royal palace in the tour. Our tour guide 'a' was very knowledgeable.

Early and latter part of tour, which was more historical, context stuff more interesting than some of the walks through the Indian market particularly walk ended with a stroll around a discount clothing store. No problem with historical issue but unlike the flower/fruit and veg market that was vibrant and interesting, Indian market very much less so. Does however show little gems of Thai history and beauty in a part of 16 million strong throng of commerce and activity.
