This excursion takes us through beautiful scenery to the north of Bangkok, and onto the ancient city of Ayutthaya, the former capital of Siam. Containing UNESCO-listed temples and stupas, Ayutthaya was the Thai capital for 417 years and is one of Thailand’s major tourist attractions. Many ancient ruins can be seen in the city, which was founded in 1350 by King U-Thong. A total of 33 kings of five dynasties ruled the kingdom until it was destroyed by the Burmese in 1767.
Included in the itinerary is a visit to the Summer Palace of King Rama V. This beautiful palace is some 30 kilometres South of Ayutthaya and was built in the reign of King Rama V. The palace consists of many Royal Buildings built in contrasting architectural styles. Thai, Chinese, Italian and Victorian styles predominate. The most well-known building is a Thai pavilion in the centre of a small lake. Many as one of the finest examples of Thai architecture regard it.
After visiting this part, we embark on the luxurious Grand Pearl Cruise for the return journey to Bangkok. A superb lunch buffet and fascinating scenery along the Chao Phraya riverbanks complete the memorable experience, as you watch life on the river pass by at a sleepy pace.
We will arrive in the late afternoon at the River City Boat pier in Bangkok, from where we will transfer you back to your Bangkok Hotel. Arrival at your overnight address in the Thai capital will be approximately at 17:30 hrs.
This is the first time using Viator and leaving a review. I thought the tour went wonderfully and I actually made a mistake and was supposed to go to the day before, but the guide/company allowed me to go the following day because they had space (free of additional charges). As for the tour itself, the sites, lunch and service was all excellent. The tour guide's English is probably a 6/10, but he was understandable and a very kind person. This particular tour is great for adults or young people, but I would not take my kids because it would require a lot of travelling in a bus and they wouldn't not be too interested in the templates etc.
Great tour! It definitely exceeded my expectations. Very convenient transportations to and from our hotel and to the locations themselves. Everyone was welcoming and kind and our tour guide was awesome. The cruise and lunch was also excellent and had really good food. I highly recommend this tour to any visitors of Thailand.
My wife and I really enjoyed this tour. I think it was a perfect way of seeing Ayutthaya and the summer palace. Our tour guide, First, was knowledgeable, funny and you could tell he loved showing travelers around Thailand and Ayutthaya. The cruise back to Bangkok was a perfect way to end the day.
Excellent tour, good value, busy day, hot, a little tiring for old people but worth it, recommended for first time visitors to Thailand. Our guide First spoke excellent English, was helpful, informative, and entertained us just enough with his tall stories. Lunch was good. We enjoyed the palaces, elephants, ruins, boat trip and even the bus, everything.
Half the time we had a hard time understanding what the tour guide was saying. As for the tour itself it was wasn't too bad. The tour to each location was someone rushed. The lunch and boat ride was probably the best highlight of the day. I wouldn't do it again.
One of the best tings about this tour was the Grand Pearl Cruise. It was at the end of the tour and was absolutely delightful. The Summer Palace was also very interesting to see. My husband has trouble walking but there we could hire a golf cart to take him around. He thought he would miss out on this, but thanks to our tour guide, he didn't. Our tour guide was outstanding and full of information.
