Meet your guide at your Barcelona hotel and soak up the scenery as you travel south to the Llobregat Delta Natural Reserve. Accompanied by an expert biologist, embark on a guided tour of the natural paradise and discover the native plants and wildlife as you roam the wet meadows, pine forests, lagoons and riverside beaches.
Along the way, stop at hidden observatories and use high-powered telescopes and binoculars to spot birds and other wildlife. The reserve is teeming with different bird species, so keep an eye out for White-Winged Terns, Moustached Warbler and Monk Parakeets, as well as wading birds like Great Bittern and Black-winged Stilt. Look out for another surprising animal resident as well – the herd of wild Camargue horses that graze on the reserve.
After a morning exploring the countryside, choose from two different options for your afternoon tour:
Option A: Admire breath-taking views as you drive north, then climb up the jagged mountainside of Montserrat. After lunch (own expense) at one of the mountaintop restaurants, set out to explore the sacred Montserrat Monastery. See the revered statue of the Black Madonna, tour the monastery and admire the views from the mountaintop footpaths, or ride the funicular (own expense) to the summit.
Option B: Continue your tour with a visit to the Cava capital of Sant Sadurní d’Anoia and kick things off with a delicious lunch (own expense) at typical Catalan restaurant. After lunch, head to the renowned Freixenet winery and enjoy a comprehensive introduction to Catalonia’s famous sparkling wine as you tour the winery. Finally, raise a toast to a great day as you indulge in an expert-led Cava tasting.
After your chosen afternoon activity, relax on the journey back to Barcelona and end your tour with drop-off at your hotel.
