We went to Montserrat on a foggy, rainy day but it was still an outstanding trip. Our tour guide Elisabeth was great and her ability to make even a rainy day interesting with her knowledge about the church and its history was outstanding! Would love to come back on a clear day and see more of the mountain.
Nuvia, the guide, loves to tell the history of Montserrat... its origin, purpose, destruction, recreation.. and continued place in
the hearts of Catalonia. Thanks for coupling the people, passion, and place of Catalonia in our common human venture for
peace, justice, compassion, serenity, and ultimate security in each other's care, competence, and commitment to living a life of community.

Very knowledgeable guide and only 6 of us in the van. Definitely a step above the larger jam packed buses and
the hotel pick up and drop off make it the best choice over all. We did this tour in mid December so really needed
to bundle up. Montserrat is truly stunning and we were lucky enough to hear the Boys' Choir sing three songs while
we were inside. wonderful!
Fantastic! Our tour guide and driver were great.
We drove about 45 minutes out of Barcelona into the hills, very pleasant drive. When we arrived we were dropped off right near to the entrance, no long hike up from the carpark, and afterward collected at the same point.
The tour was very informative, we learned about the monastery and why it was there, taken to see the Black Madonna and shown some of the sculptures along the walk, even one by Mr Gaudi himself! Also rode on the funicular which was fun, but we didn't go up the top of the mountain, as the top funicular queues were very long. Plenty of free time to take a closer look at the monastery buildings and grounds.
The views from the courtyard are breathtaking and the whole experience was worth the money paid.
Only downside, was the traffic on the return journey, it took us twice as long to head back into town. As we had another tour booked for the afternoon, we only just made it back in time.
I would recommend giving yourself plenty of time for the journey back to Barcelona.
Recommend this tour highly!!
My wife and I began our two week Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona. We optioned for an extra day to get acclimated to the time change. We chose a half day trip to visit the Monastery at Montserrat. We were in luck, as it turned out, due to a cancellation, we had a private tour with our guide Nuria. In a word, Nuria was exceptional! Her command of the English language was impressive and communication was easy. She has a teachers demeanor, and as her students, we took advantage to soak up her knowledge. During the ride up to Montserrat, we discussed everything from the current independence movement in Catalan, to the culture and life in Barcelona as well as the history of the area and architecture. Nurias understanding of the issues faced by the United States was profound. It was an absolute pleasure to spend time with her. More about the tour: we arrived at Montserrat, rode a cable car to the top,
followed a path to the end to visit an old church built on the site of a vision of the Virgin Mary by some herders. We then rode a funicular, train to the Monastery. We viewed the sights and got to see and touch the Black Madonna. While we in line inside the church, we heard the boys choir! The weather was beautiful and the vistas from the Monastery were awesome. All in all the experience was worth it. Having Nuria as a guide made it that much more incredible.
Guide was great

Great tour with knowledgable guide. No rush timetable. Could have done with a larger vehicle for four adults! Highly recommended.
Our guide from In-Out Barcelona Tours planned everything in terms of timing so that we were able to avoid the crowd. He also appeared to be very knowledgeable and full of stories that relate to you no matter what part of the world you're from.
We took our kids 6 and 8 years old to this tour and it was a great success! We loved the walk down to the chapel, and the explanations along the way. The kids were able to run and play and have fun while the adults learned about the 12 stations, the architecture and many other things.
Our guide was very patient and fun. If we had more time, we would have liked to hike a bit into the mountain, but unfortunately, we had to go back to town. only regret
We loved our half-day trip to Montserrat! Our friendly and knowledgeable guide, Mariusz, from Inside Travel picked us up at our apartment right on time, as scheduled, and we made the one hour drive out of Barcelona to the mountains and Montserrat. He shared some of the background of the region and the Abbey on our drive and even stopped at a viewpoint along the way to allow us to take some photos.
Once there, he was very flexible to allow us the time we needed to take pictures, ask questions, and take a ride on the funicular which travels above the site for amazing views of the Abbey and countryside. Montserrat is beautiful, the church and artworks impressive, and a lovely way to spend a half day outside the bustle of the city. We aren't Catholic or pilgrims and so didn't pay extra to stand in line to view, touch and pray to the black virgin the view from the main floor of the church was sufficient.
Mariusz was kind and extremely knowledgable and his English was excellent. Added bonus: my daughter left her sunglasses in his car at the end of the trip and when I called to ask about them, he even arranged to drop them off for her, meeting us where we happened to be touring that evening. Not everyone will go out of their way to do something like that. Thanks for a great day!
