Loved it! Our group 4 adults and 1 nine year old had a lovely evening. The market tour was really fun and the cooking was the best! We had Spanish appetizers from the various regions of Spain with an explanation of each followed by the hands on cooking as much or as little as you want of seafood paella! All accompanied with wine for the evening. Alfredo chef speaks little English, but his translator was awesome and it was a seamless evening. Note that the cooking takes place on the 3rd floor without an elevator and the elderly in our group had a difficult ascension of the stairs.
Our experience with Janella, our market tour guide, and Alfredo, our chef...was the highlight of our trip abroad. We loved the market, despite it was a busy Saturday, the day before Easter. We saw the premier food vendors and were taught the differences in Jamon and other specialty spanish vegatables. Also learned how the Spanish use almost all parts of the animal that is used for food. We headed back to the lovely studio a few floors above the Placa Reial. With the large floor to ceiling windows open and the breeze blowing in we could hear and see the sights in sounds of the square while we learned a geographical and traditional approach to tapas from throughout Spain. It was so enlightening and DELICIOUS! We moved onto preparing together, a traditional Catalan Paella. I am a paella fanatic from the states and this far surpassed anything I have ever had...We even let Alfredo know how much we appreciate soccarat the crunchy bottom of a perfect paella he showed us just how to achieve such a crust....mmmmmm....What a wonderful time we had. SO SO worth the money!!!
