Receive an included morning pickup from your accommodations in Barcelona. You’ll continue out of town and up into the alpine area known as Montserrat Mountain. Your guide will share more details about the site’s history while en route to help give you further context.
When you arrive at this beautiful high-altitude religious complex, proceed to the Montserrat Basilica to get a look at the “Black Madonna.” Also known as “The Virgin of Montserrat,” legend has it that kissing or touching this revered icon’s hand can bring good fortune. Continue your Montserrat visit by exploring some of the site’s nearby hiking trails, offering access to stunning views of the Pyrenee Mountains. Thanks to your setting at more than 3,200 feet (1,000 meters) above sea level, you’re sure to have quite the panorama. Don’t worry if you don’t enjoy hiking, as your guide is happy to customize this portion of the day to suit your interests.
Following your hiking adventure, leave the monastery behind and head to a local eatery, where you’ll have the opportunity to sample the Catalan delicacy of “mató amb mel” (local cheese with honey). It’s the sweetest possible way to end your private excursion to Montserrat. You’ll receive a drop-off back at your Barcelona accommodations at the end of the trip.
