Hear the stories behind Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square during a 5-hour, small-group walking tour in Beijing. After exploring the famous square, which is one of the world’s largest, you’ll make your way into the Forbidden City using a prebooked ticket to avoid any long entrance lines. Explore all the key sites including the Imperial Garden, and discover fun facts about the Ming and Qing dynasties from your guide. Numbers are limited to just 12 people, and you can rest assured that no unwelcome factory or tourist shop visits are planned.
  • 5-hour Beijing guided walking tour
  • Walk around Tiananmen Square as you learn about its history
  • Use a prebooked ticket to access the Forbidden City
  • Hear stories relating to the Ming and Qing dynasties
  • Visit the Meridian Gate, Imperial Garden, and more
Wait in your hotel lobby at 8am to meet your guide. Together, you’ll travel to Tiananmen Square, in the geographical heart of the city.
Once of the world’s largest central squares, Tiananmen Square covers a vast amount of open space, measuring in at some 440, 000 square meters (109 acres). To put that in perspective, the square is roughly as large as the whole of Vatican City. Stand amid the history as your guide explains its past and points out its significant buildings.
From the square, you’ll continue into the Forbidden City with your fast-access prebooked ticket in hand. Make your way to a quiet seating area, and learn about the palace and the Ming and Qing dynasties from your guide. Many say that a visit to the Forbidden City is more about the stories than the sightseeing, and your guide will tell all the tales to make your visit complete.
Check out the Meridian Gate, halls of harmony, heavenly purity, earthly tranquility, and unity; and the tree-lined pathways of the Imperial Garden as well as many other significant sights. Read the Itinerary for a full list of attractions that are seen on the tour.
Your experience ends in the grounds of the Imperial Garden but you can spend longer inside the Forbidden City, if you wish.

Our guide was ‘Jimmy’, an absolute brilliant and cheery guy. He called our hotel the evening before our tour, to confirm our pick up time etc. We were a small party of 4, my wife and me plus two guys originally from Switzerland. We had a leisurely stroll through the square and into the the Forbidden City. Jimmy was full of stories and interesting facts all told in excellent English. At the end of the tour he walked us, rather than just give us directions, to an absolutely brilliant restaurant for lunch that he recommended, a distance of about a mile. He took my number and kindly offered to answer any queries or give us any tips if required during the rest of our trip. An excellent service, because frankly, if you don’t have a guide, you will miss out on so much given the scale of these attractions

I highly recommend visiting the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square with a guide, because it allows you to understand the importance and meaning of its buildings and spaces. We had a great experience. Our guide Qing was excellent, she gave us loads of information and interesting stories about the sights, helping us make the most of our visit. Luckily the tour was our very first activity in Beijing, so what she taught us helped a lot when visiting other sights such us the Summer Palace and the Temple of Heaven by ourselves.

This is a fantastic way to spend a day in Beijing. Vivian met our small group of 4 in our hotel lobby and we walked to Tiananmen Square and then on to the Forbidden City. We stopped at intervals to take in the sights and learn about Chinese history. There were lots of photo ops. Vivian was a great guide - she is knowledgeable, passionate and experienced. We learnt a lot and would definitely recommend this tour.

The small group tour was ideal because it allowed us to do all the things we wanted to do at the pace we wanted to go, without having to do what we weren't interested in. Our guide, Susan was very knowledgeable and her English was excellent. She also gave us lots of tips for the rest of our trip, took us on the underground so we would be able to do that at other times and put us on a bus to our next sightseeing location. She went above and beyond what we expected.

Our tour was excellent our guide was excellent. The subject of the tour is enormous, and it is fascinating. My apple watch said we walked over 27,000 steps including from and to the hotel. Our guide was very knowledgeable, and we helpful offering us suggestions for lunch and dinner. If you are in good shape for walking this tour is great. If you are not comfortable walking long distances I can not recommend visiting Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. We enjoyed the tour and highly recommend it.

On this tour, you will be able to see every part of the Forbidden City that is open to the public, as well as all of its exhibits, and you will not be rushed. I can't image seeing the Forbidden City without our guide there to provide the historical context and significance, and his English was very good.
