Amazing visit to Mutianyu in Dec. Would recommend visiting at this time because it is the non-peak season. Guide was very caring and kept ensuring that we were dressed warmly enough for the climb up the Great Wall. The visit included a tea-appreciation session.
We had a really wonderful guide in Cynthia who provided a lot of detailed information regarding history and culture. I had a great day at wall where we got to spend a lot of time at the wall itself. We had an excellent lunch in a restaurant at base. This day was rounded outwith a visit to a Tea house where we had opportunity to sample various types of tea.
Would definitely recommend this tour
The company was extremely helpful in making arrangements for the trip. The guide that was given was excellent and made the visit exciting.
Our guide Gale was so nice, and told us some fascinating Chinese folk stories! The tour arrives at the wall in good time before the main crowds. Includes a good 2.5 hours to explore before lunch. A rest stop each way are shops but include interesting activities - learning about jade, Chinese teas.
This tour was the highlight of our trip to China Cynthia our guide was excellent the wall was amazing and our lunch delicious we loved the whole thing if booking this tour ask for Cynthia as she could not have done more to make our better 11out of 10 for this tour
Great tour. Our guide was super friendly and helpful. I would recommend this tour to others :)
Good fun, very efficient, and Kathy, our guide had an enormous depth of knowledge on all sorts of subjects. She was also very good at herding us sheep to get us to the wall on time. Early start, but very sensible to get in front of the crowds during Golden Week. Great value too. Biggest disappointment? The rain that meant that we did not have the chance to do the toboggan run...
Excellent tour! Delivered in all aspects, from sites, food, information... all I could have ever asked for.
I highly recommend this trip. Just be prepared for the steep walking involved on the Great Wall itself.
Fun day at the Great Wall! Tour guide picks you right up from Hotel. The tea ceremony was cool as well.
Had a wonderful time. Appreciated the small group and the pacing was perfect. Alice, our tour guide was very knowledgeable, and friendly. She did a great job!
This was a great tour. In addition to a few hours at the wall, the tour included stops at a jade factory and a tea shop which were both educational and a good bonus. Our guide William was great, very knowledgeable about the history of not only the wall but all things Beijing. He helped several of us with dinner recommendations, offering his number for us to call him even after the tour if we had questions or needed instructions.
Outstanding! I love tours! They save time and money! But this trip was one for the books! I was the only one on the tour with Cherry and a driver in a town car.
Enameling Factory - Cloisonne enamel
Great Wall at Mutianyu - I opted for the cable car there and back
Lunch at the Jade Gallery
I hadn't intended it being so amazing, I didn't realize all these stops were included! But if you want real souvenirs that last a lifetime... this is the tour! Cherry is a professional tour guide and as a result is a wealth of information and quite lovely. She stayed behind during shopping portions of the day, which made me feel relaxed and unrushed.
The enameling dates back before the king dynasty but it was the king dynasty that made it popular. It's still done the exact same way! Then shopping!
The Great Wall, Cherry took care of everything! We went via cable car... she walked as long as I wanted to walk and took tons of pictures!
The Jade Gallery taught me how to decipher quality Jade. Then lunch, then shopping! lunch was perfect, I told them what I don't like and everything from there was perfect!
The tea ceremony was fantastic we sampled and discussed tea... then shopping!
These tours never disappoint!
I would like to stress, the shopping was completely, I'd been looking for quality souvenirs and these where China specific and perfect! They couldn't have made a more perfect tour for me!
Just a perfect excursion to the Great Wall. Our guide Alice was efficient and funny and a storehouse of knowledge. We were picked up at the hotel by 7:15 AM. After the customary stop at the Jade Factory we proceeded to the Great Wall. I am glad I choose the Mutiyanu section over the others. The lush green tree cover and mountainous terrain are stunning. The crowds were there but not so much that you couldn't get some time on the wall to yourself. The Chairlift up the wall and the Tobaggon ride down the wall are not included as part of the trip - so make sure you take some extra money for that. It was 120 yuan per person. The walk on the wall up to the last watch tower can be completed to and fro in about 2 hours flat. That leaves you enough time for a beer on the top but of course it's 4 times the cost at 100 yuan!. Wear comfortable walking shoes, don't push yourself to reach the end and be careful on some steep areas that are almost vertical. Then get ready to come down the wall in an awesome Tobaggon ride! The traditional Chinese lunch at Mr.Yang's was delightful and helped the small tour group 6 of us bond over food, stories and drinks. We then went to a Chinese Tea Ceremony on the way. They urge you to buy a lot of stuff, but I found cheaper and better tea/ tea sets in Wangfujing. We were back to the hotel by 5 PM.
If you want to trek up the wall, this is probably not the tour for you Simatai can be better. If you want to visit the most visited section of the wall and don't mind a million Chinese tourists you are better off at Badaling. But if you have just a day and want to experience something breathtaking - then Mutiyanu is the one.
Highly recommended section of the Great Wall. Not too many visitors, and you get the chance to toboggan down the path on your way back. Our guide was a lot of fun and spoke very good English. Thank you!
Awesome tour!!! Our guide Cherry spoke English very well and was quite informative. The tour size was very small only 4 of us which I liked and gave the tour a much more personal favor. On the way to the Great Wall, we stop and toured a jade factory. After the Great Wall, we had a delightful and filling lunch at a restraunt back near the entrance. On the way back to Beijing, we stop and visited a tea shop where we learned about and tasted some different Chinese teas. While there were opportunities to purchase items at each of these places jade factory and tea shop, we were never pressured to feel that we had to.
As for the Great Wall tour itself, it was everything that I hoped for! We were given 2 hours to freely wander about the Wall taken our own time to see what we wanted.
I gave the tour 5 stars however, there are a couple changes/considerations that I would recommend: 1 for lunch, drinks were not covered in the meal. We had to pay for our own drinks even if it was only water. Drinks water and soda only should be covered in the tour price and 2 maybe extend the time on the Wall? I mean, 2 hours was good, but 3 would have been better. No need to go more than 3 hours though.
Other than these two considerations, the tour was a great success and a check off on my bucket list!!! I would highly recommend this tour to others! Thank you!!!
Wonderful day thanks Jacky Lee! We have waited a long time to experience the great wall of China and it did not disappoint! Lovely lunch and visit to the tea house was also fun, highly recommended!
Excellent tour of the Great Wall, we had sufficient time to look, take pictures, we got to go early in the morning when there were little or no crowds. The lunch was out of this world. The jade factory was pretty cool too, but our guide Cynthia was absolutely amazing
Everything was just as described. We were picked up at our hotel by 730 then made the our long drive to the Great Wall. Along the drive Kathy, how are two or guide, told us about Beijing, the great wall, and a little bit of history. At the Great Wall our group was free to do what it pleased. After sliding down the hill leading to the great wall on a toboggan, we reconvened with our group at a nearby restaurant. Kathy ordered food for us and it was delicious! After leaving continue we went to a at the Jade factory we found some really nice jewelry we purchased. There was nothing particularly special about the tea ceremony. All in all, we had a great time and I highly recommend this tour.
Great tour, I got lots of unobstructed photos. This is definitely the best side to visit, not very crowded at all. Toboggan back down.
This tour of the wall is highly recommended. It had less people there than the Badaling section, and it has the toboggan ride down if you so choose. Our guide was Alice. She was fantastic. Her English was good and she popped in jokes here and there just to see if you were listening. She texted us with pick up times and called the hotel early with pick up times just to make sure we got the information. I saw this as a plus and not pushy---GREAT JOB COMMUNICATING! She was not there for the sale at the sales stops and I found this comforting because she did not push us to buy anything. If we didn't want to buy, we didn't. Nothing was said or shown to disapprove if walked out empty handed. We stopped at the jade market first. The market is niceand had a great selection, but everything was very expensive even with our supposed 30 discount. Don't believe this discount because it applies to nothing and can be purchased for cheaper if you haggle. Don't forget....most of these items can be purchased from Amazon.com for 1/10th the cost. Besides, if you just shop around at some of the non arranged areas, you can find better deals. I found a nice dragon at the Great Wall for a fraction of the price. Haggle and you get better prices. The Great Wall was a 2 hour visit only. You have to have money for the chair lift because it is not included in the price of the tour. IT IS VERY WORTH BUYING! You will not have enough time to walk up and back otherwise. You have the option of taking the toboggan down or the chair lift down, but take the toboggan because it is more fun and safe as long as you don't have someone behind you not paying attention to their speed. The wall is long and has many steps steep in some parts so wear good sneakers. NO SANDALS, FLIP FLOPS, OR HEELS. You will not really need much more than 2 hours at the wall because there are only so many pictures you can take of it before they become redundant. Lunch was at Mr Yang's right there at the wall location. It doesn't come with drinks so be prepared to bring some with you before or be ready to buy some there. Be cautious of the cold dishes sliced tomatoes dish since the pesticides and bacteria can not be cooked out of it. After our meal, we went to a Tea Shop for a tasting. It was an interesting lesson on tea. The prices are high here as well and be careful because this is a type of produce which might not make it back to your destination through customs. Once we were done, the driver took us back to our hotel. The driver made us feel safe for the whole tour. Thank you Alice and our driver for a very pleasant day.
This was one of my fav moments of my visit to China. The tour was very professionally run. The tour guide was super friendly and professional. We went to Mutianyu which is amazing! Then we went to a ceramics factory, had a great lunch, then to a tea house and a drive around the newer sections of Beijing. It was a wonderful day. Would do this again if I ever visit Beijing again
