To the east of the some of the more popular sections of the Great Wall is Simatai. Untamed and relatively unrestored, the Simatai section is a beautiful, towering part of the wall whose design has only been altered by the forces of nature. This full-day tour will give you the chance to walk along the wall without dealing with the crowds you’d find at those other, more popular sections.

Due to bad communications, I missed the pickup for the tour on the first day. However, the company called me to assure me that I could take the tour the following day. Pickup was on time and we departed for the 2 hour drive to the Great wall. Entry to the site was smooth and I elected to take the cable car up to the wall, instead of the 1 hour walk up the path! A wise move, because I was completely tuckered out at the end of the day!! Cheng was our guide and he was a funny, knowledgeable and friendly man, along with Panda our driver. It was a really sunny day and there were very few people on the wall. The views were stunning and the walk was strenuous. However, with plenty of stops for water and picture taking, we all managed to complete the trek. There was even someone with a broken leg who completed the walk! We then descended to catch our coach. We then visited a water village before taking lunch at a local restaurant. The food was good and the beer was cold. I highly recommend this tour to anyone and thank Cheng and Panda for a wonderful day
