What To Expect

Depart from your Belfast hotel in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle and admire the scenic Irish countryside as your guide offers an insightful introduction to the region and its associations with hit fantasy drama, Game of Thrones. Stop first in the quaint town of Cushendun to see the caves in which Melisandre of Asshai gave birth to her ‘shadow baby’, and then enrich your knowledge of trysts between prominent families like the Westeros.

Travel onward to Ballycastle to see the site on which Varys was born, and then continue down the atmospheric Dark Hedges road, a shady trail covered by a natural archway of intertwined trees. Capture shots of one of Ireland’s most photographed locations, also the place in which Ayra Stark dressed as a boy, and then head to the nail-biting Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge.

Although the iconic bridge is not connected to Game of Thrones, crossing the bridge is sure to result in the same kind of exhilaration as watching the show. Stroll over the suspended structure and gaze down at the crashing Atlantic Ocean as you summon your courage to cross to the other side.

Revitalize with lunch at the location used as the fictional Lordspot Harbour (own expense) and then enjoy some leisurely free time at the Giant’s Causeway on arrival at the UNESCO-listed site. Marvel at the mystifying stone hexagons featured regularly in the series before returning to your minivan for the journey back to Belfast.

Make a final stop at Downhill Strand, featured as Dragonstone in the show, and then bid your private guide farewell at your Belfast hotel.

Giant's Causeway

We visit the UNESCO-listed Giant’s Causeway to explore at leisure. While the location hasn’t been used in Game of Thrones, the site is the Causeway Coast’s showpiece, and it’s well worth visiting while in the area. Walk around admiring the hexagonal rock columns and gaze out at the crashing waves along the dramatic coastline.

The Dark Hedges

Probably the most recognisable fall the locations, "The Kings Road" is a breathtaking avenue of trees, where you can visualise Arya Stark making her escape down The Kings Road.

The specialized route our driver took us on. Not to mention the extra time he spent explaining the tour and the special things that went with it. Our driver was Jeff and he was fantastic.

The driver was very professional and friendly. The car was very comfortable. However, the driver never saw Game of Thrones and didn't know anything about the series.

Being a GOT fan, I opted for a private tour. Keith was wonderful and took great care of me. We traveled the northern coast and I loved it. Beautiful country.

Tour guide for McCombs was extremely hospitable. His name was He was a nice guy but not so knowledgeable about the Game of Thrones. He did accommodate us and did the normal tour in the reverse order so we were able to see the dark hedges before it was crowded with people and take great photos.

Derek picked us up at our cruise ship and took us on a wonderful private tour in August, 2018. First we saw Carrickfergus Castle before stopping on the side of the road to see Castle Black through the trees. Next, we saw the steps used for the scene where Aria was stabbed. We followed that up by seeing the caves where Melisandre gave birth to the shadow baby. The next stop was Carrick-a-Rede bridge. Now this was definitely one of the highlights of the trip. There was only a 5-10 minute queue to get to it. It was very cool! The Giant's Causeway was one of the best locations for photography that I've ever visited. Such a scenic location. Amazing! After that we saw the beautiful Dark Hedges which looked very creepy. On the way back we got to see King's Landing which was mostly burnt down due to an upcoming battle scene in the next season. Derek was an incredibly knowledgeable and funny guide. I would recommend that you request him. He made our last day in Ireland memorable. A

Our Driver Stephen went above and beyond to make our day perfect and special. He made history come alive for us. He showed us things and areas we would not have seen on a regular scheduled bus tip Hi From the Canadians !!!!!

This full day tour was filled with beautiful Irish scenery of the Irish Coastline. It was breathtaking. So much history. Unfortunately our tour guide was more interested in giving us his personal opinions of Irish/English history, critiques of other tour guides even approaching them while on our tour and the world in general. Half way through the tour I had wished we were matched with a different guide.

This was absolutely the best day...
Caroline O, Aug 2017
This was absolutely the best day tour I have ever been on! The reason: our guide Derrick. So, private tour, party of five, only two of us Game of Thrones fans. We just came off of a two week tour of Ireland, ending in Belfast, so we had already gone to the Giant's Causeway and the rope bridge. When we met Derrick at our hotel for pick-up right on time, I told him that we had been these places so he graciously altered the itinerary to fit our needs/wants. Derrick was so knowledgeable about EVERYTHING! First, he was very passionate about Game of Thrones, and since we had been on vacation and missed the season opener, he was careful not to let any spoilers slip. My husband and I really enjoyed debating the qualities of characters and predicting future events He even made me reconsider Katelyn Stark's role in the mess of Westeros! Derrick is also very knowledgeable and passionate about Northern Ireland, and we all appreciated his insights into the past and present history of the region. We all loved his sense of humor, and by the end of the tour, we felt like we had found a new friend. The tour itself was awesome as well. The sights are beautiful and there was plenty to love about the tour, even if you were not a GoT fan to begin with. Our whole group of five voted this our best experience of our three weeks...and we had some great ones so the competition for first place was steep. The private tour was definitely the way to go for us, and we all appreciated the effort put forth by Derrick to cater to our interests. I HIGHLY recommend this tour, especially if Derrick is your guide!

Fabulous day!! Our guide Ian was excellent! Loved all the tidbits about Game of Thrones filming. We also enjoyed visiting the Causeway and rope bridge. Lastly and most moving was our exploration of Belfast and details about The Troubles! Recommend highly. A strong highlight of our entire trip! Thank you!

Of all the tours we have taken in thirty years of marriage, this one was by far the best. Our tour guide Derrick was exactly on time picking us up from our hotel. He kept the stories coming, and my wife and I are still laughing about some of them. We got to see everything promised on our Game of Thrones tour and he asked if we had time to see a few more places. Of course!!! Derrick showed us little clips from the show when we would arrive at the location so we could get an idea of how it featured in the show. Even if you're not a fan of the books or the show, the scenery is amazing and no way we would have found most of these spots if left to our own devices. Great job!

The tour was amazing. Our guide was very knowledgable and was able to show us all of the great places were the GOT was filmed. We were lucky to have such amazing weather too. We would recommend this tour to anyone who is a fan of the GOT series or just interested in some of the history of this amazing country. Our guide had an unfortunate incident with his iPAD and was unable to bring pictures that go along with the tour. We were told that he would forward them to our email. We are still waiting........

Fantastic day out. Philip was a brilliant guide and we saw so many GOT sites as well as getting a stunning tour of Northern Ireland. Full of insights and little quizzes on the show which my sixteen old son loved. Highly recommended for all GOT fans.

Phillip and driver Stephen were outstanding. Phillip's insights about the GoT sites and Irish history made the difference. Private tour was fantastic. We had no detailed idea before hand what the specific sites were, Phillip brought his Ipad with the scenes which we viewed before each stop. Stephen's driving was top-rate, his knowledge of shortcuts and back roads ensured we wasted little time between stops. I would recommend to any GoT fan. This tour was worth every penny.

Best tour I've ever been on! The tour guide picked me and my friend up from our hostel and took us all over Northern Ireland's coastline. He gave us all of the real history of the area we went through as well as anecdotes about how areas were chosen for the show and also what the actors/crew dealt with while filming at each spot. Fantastic tour, fantastic guide! He even tried to talk our way into the studio, but they were filming at the time, so we couldn't get in, but we appreciated the effort!

Forbes H, Oct 2013
4 of us took the personalized tour and we were not disappointed. A knowledgeable guide, mostly excellent weather and the great locations added up to a memorable day. We even managed to get up to a set that had been active that day. Our trip was made even better when 2 of us bumped into "Sam Tarly" and got their photos taken with him. Unlikely to happen every time but there's a decent chance of bumping into cast and crew in Summer/Autumn. Thoroughly recommended for all GoT fans. Oh yes and Belfast is ace too.
