What To Expect

Make your way to the National Assembly of Serbia, where this tour begins, close to public transport and downtown sites. Start with the basics: learn about this history of this ancient city, then hear how it weathered extensive NATO bombing in the 1990s. Take in the exterior of the parliament building, which was built for the Obrenović dynasty, then used by the dynasty of Karađorđević, a family that ruled the country after the First Serbian Uprising.

Continue to the New Court and Nikola Pašić Square, where you’ll find a dramatic fountain monument to a former Belgrade Mayor. Pass the Syndicate House on your way to Terazije Square, among the most gracious public spaces in the city.

See the Prince Mihail Monument in Republic Square, and learn the stories behind the National Theater and National Museum. Stroll down bustling Knez Mihailo Street to find some of Belgrade’s best shopping, then walk to Kalemegdan Park and the Belgrade Cathedral. This tour concludes at the Belgrade Fortress, located on the edge of the Sava and Danube Rivers.

The National Assembly

Belgrade is said to be the city of an open heart, generous and cordial to all visitors. This is why it is best to start meeting it from its very core – the city center. Leave your guidebook at home and trust the knowledge of our local guide who will captivate you with historical insight of this rising metropolis. The tour starts from the National Parliament, the monumental building built at the beginning of the 20th century, witnessing the turbulent history of Serbia. Across it are the Old and New palaces, former seats of royal dynasties Obrenovic and Karadjordjevic, nowadays residency of the President and the City Parliament. You will be surprised and dazzled when you discover the mystery surrounding the existence of these royal families.

It is an interesting walk in the city of Belgrade. Our guide gave us a very good introduction of the city of Belgrade. In addition, he also told us a lot about the European history especially those related to the Balkan states, the former Kingdom of Serba, Croates, and Slovenia. He also explained about the changes in the years from kingdom of Yugoslavia, to federal republic of Yugoslavia, to socialist republic of Yugoslavia and finally to the different independent countries

Another great tour and great value from Viator. Viktor did a superb job! He was knowledgeable, patient, and engaging. Since I was the only tour participant and am learning Serbian, he did the tour in Serbian and English! Wow, impressive.

This was such a fantastic tour. Special thanks for Bojana for taking me all over town even in the rain. We had a great day walking around Belgrade and Bojana taught me so much about Serbian history. We even stopped for a Turkish coffee along the way. She also gave me many other recommendations for my stay in Belgrade. The fortress was definitely my favorite part of the tour - there are just so many cool things to see there. Thank you again, Bojana!

My friends and I went to visit Belgrade for a weekend and we did have too much time, so we decided to book the tour. The tour was really nice because we were able to see the most important things in Belgrade just in a few hours. After the tour, the tour guide I forgot her name : gave us some useful tips about interesting bars and restaurants in Belgrade. I can highly recommend the tour because you will be able to hear interesting stories about Belgrade and you will not lose time trying to find historic places on your own.

The tour guide was just amazing, I would recommend it to anyone. The tourist guide Nina was super competent and gave us special insights to towns history as well as modern Belgrade. She could answer all of our questions, which were quite a few. Among all the impressive buildings, we loved the walk through the Kalemegdan park. We could really feel the life of locals here, would recommend if anyone wants an overview of Belgrade before exploring on their own! Good value for money.

My guide was Dragona, a Serbian historian. She knew EVERY detail about the buildings and told me anecdotes about the wars and government changes that impacted the country over the centuries. She took extra care with me and I am very grateful to have had this experience of Belgrade.
