Hotels are kinda dumpy imagine you're a kid again and staying at summer camp but the service was spectacular. Communication was also a little lacking - I was greatly relieved to see they showed up to collect us from the airport! The kids still talk about how great the food was almost a year later. I'd recommend it, but you need to set your expectations appropriately. The land tours are awesome. There is a ton to do in Belize. I enjoyed it much more than Costa Rica. I would not do the ferry again. It was horribly claustrophobic and it only takes one obnoxious person to make a hot, cramped, bumpy, loud, boat ride miserable - and of course we had more than one someone got slapped, someone else got threatened - it might have been a show if not to confined and hot with no air/breeze. They really pack those boats tight.
Belize is a beautiful country with lots to do. The accommodations are, well... set your expectations low. The service was great. How's that? People were very kind and conscientious, but communication ahead of our arrival was poor and rooms reminded me of being at camp as a kid shower was a lukewarm drip. Food was excellent. We went zip-lining, cave tubing and to the Mayan ruins where we also saw crocodile and monkeys and snorkeling with sharks and rays and to Mexico Rocks. I would absolutely do it again. The only thing I wouldn't do, is the water taxi. That was crowded and retched. I don't get claustrophobic or motion sick, but anyone who is at risk for either one shouldn't attempt it - just spring for the flights. Snorkeling was really amazing I've snorkeled a lot of places. We added some extra snorkel trips and I'm so glad I squeezed them in.
