What You Can Expect

Blue Hole and Turneffe Islands Helicopter Tour

See the sights from the sky in Belize!

Take in a unique, bird’s-eye perspective of one of Earth’s most impressive oceanic wonders. After hotel pickup in a minivan, you’ll arrive at the heliport for a safety briefing and then hop aboard the 4-passenger helicopter. Flying southeast, you’ll first see Belize City below as your pilot provides narration. Soon, the aquamarine waters of the Caribbean will come into view.

After passing Drowned Cayes and Gallows Point, you’ll be soaring above the second-largest barrier reef in the world. Watch waves crest over the astounding coral reef and be on the lookout for the many marine creatures that live among it. Dolphins, sharks, stingrays, manatees, and crocodiles all have been spotted in the reef waters.

Next up, you’ll spot the spectacular Turneffe Atoll. This cluster of about 200 different cayes, or islands, is roughly 30 miles (48 km) long by 10 miles (16 km) wide and features a brilliant Central Lagoon. An abundance of marine life makes its home in the atoll, including sea turtles, green moray eels, nurse sharks, eagle rays, reef sharks, and a huge variety of fish.

As you fly further over the open sea, Lighthouse Reef will come into view. Imbedded in this atoll is the famous Blue Hole – a spectacular dark blue circle formed by a collapsed cavern in the sea floor. At 1,000 feet (300 meters) across and 460 feet (140 meters) deep, it is the largest of its kind in the world. Both a Belize National Monument and a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Blue Hole is an eye-popping natural wonder. You’ll hover over it for an unbeatable aerial view of its extraordinary span and color.

Your flight will continue above Half Moon Caye Natural Monument, which spans 10,000 acres (4,045 hectares) of nationally protected marine reserve. You’ll head back toward the mainland, passing again over Turneffe Atoll, where you can glimpse one of the atoll’s few islands with a classic white sandy beach. Heading back into Belize City, you’ll see impressive views of the coastline and many surrounding cases.

After touching down at the heliport, you can snap some photos of the helicopter and pilot to remember your ride. A minivan will take you back to your hotel, providing a scenic driving tour of Belize City highlights on the way.
