We were on a cruise and scheduled this trip independently, as we had a couple hours leeway on each side of the chosen tour time (2:00 PM). We walked to the starting point, a bit less than 1km.
We had a very good tour with just the two of us and our guide. Christine was not a native but knew the city well. The tour did not start well as we showed up 30 minute early at the address given to find their facility dark and locked. I called to verify we were in the right place and got a central location (not in Bergen) and was told they'd check and get back to me. They never did, but our guide showed up exactly at the starting time. She fit us with helmets (I had trouble finding one big enough for my size 7 3/4 head) and safety vests and showed us how to use the Segways.
Off we went, generally keeping to sidewalks and slow streets. At times we were in crowded locations. It was a bit dicey even with shoulder-season crowds and just three of us. I can only imagine how it would be during the summer with a string of a dozen Segways.
The Segways we used were their heavy duty models with knobby tires so they handled curbs and wet surfaces very well. Never felt in danger of losing control, and I'd only been on Segways a few times before.
We got back at the expected time, and easily made it back to our ship.
