Private Tour: Potsdam Day Trip from Berlin

Visit Cecilienhof on your private tour from Berlin!

This full-day walking/riding adventure begins with a morning hotel pickup in central Berlin. Climb into a luxurious Mercedes-Benz Vito Taxi, followed by a 45-minute drive west to the scenic city of Potsdam, the capital city of the German federal state of Brandenburg. Drive along between the former East and West Berlin, over the Glienicke Bridge connecting Potsdam to Berlin — where Cold War spy exchanges routinely took place.

Once in Potsdam, see the majestic castle of Babelsberg, the fabulous Marble Palace and visit the Cecilenhof Palace, where Churchill, Truman and Stalin wrote world history when discussing how to partition Germany.

Then travel through the historical city center, the Russian colony Alexandrowka and the Dutch Quarter and into downtown Potsdam for lunch at a local restaurant (own expense). While downtown, visit the Evangelical St. Nicholas' Church; the historic town hall and the Landtag of Brandenburg, or Brandenburg State Parliament.

Finally, admire the majestic royal residences that were built during the reign of Frederick the Great. There’s Sansoucci Palace, one of the largest UNESCO World Heritage sites in Germany; New Palace, the largest and most impressive palace ensemble in Sanssouci; the small, neo-classical Charlottenhof Palace, also in Sanssouci Park; and Orangery Palace, built in the style of the High Renaissance and commissioned by King Frederick William IV.

The tour concludes with a return trip to Berlin.

This tour was the best way to see Potsdam. We could make some choices about how much time to spend in certain places, and we could easily get our questions answered. One participant had trouble getting to the starting place because traffic had been cut off due to a bicycle tour in the area. Her taxi driver let her out to walk, but she went the wrong direction. The guide went out on foot and found her, going way beyond the call of duty to be sure everyone could participate. The guide was a new master's degree recipient and knew his history very well.

I did the private tour with Carlos and it was wonderful!!! He was very knowledgeable and we learned so much. He tailored the tour to what we'd like and added a stop by track 17, which we thought was a great addition and one we hadn't heard of. I already recommended this tour and Carlos to several people.
