What You Can Expect

Warnemünde Shore Excursion: Private Tour of Berlin's World War II and Cold War Sites

See Berlin's Victory Column on your private sightseeing tour!

Begin this full-day tour with a Warnemünde cruise port meet and greet and pickup with the tour guide. After a 2.5-hour drive south from the port, decide whether to focus on Berlin’s World War II or Cold War history. Or simply request a combination of the two. This private tour can be customized to individual preferences.

Drive around and walk through the city with an expert local guide, who will provide a detailed account of Berlin’s fascinating and oftentimes troubled history.

Learn about Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party and what life was like during the Third Reich. See where Hitler’s bunker was located and visit the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. Also, find out how Germany was divided while walking through Checkpoint Charlie, the best-known crossing point between East and West Berlin during the Cold War. Then walk alongside the remains of the Berlin Wall at the Berlin Wall Memorial and East Side Gallery.

Walk under the famous Brandenburg Gate, one of Berlin’s most important monuments. A symbol of division between Berlin and Germany during the Cold War, it is now a national symbol of peace and unity. Also, see the Reichstag building, the modern-day meeting place of the German Parliament.

This private tour is a customized experience, so be sure to include any specific requests for desired attractions at the time of booking.

When hunger strikes, the guide will suggest a variety of lunch options, such as a traditional German beer garden, depending on preference.

The tour concludes with a 2.5-hour drive north and a Warnemünde cruise port drop-off.

Thoroughly enjoyed the private tour. Our driver was excellent, and Anna, the tour person was
very professional and we had a great time visiting the different places.

We highly recommend our guide Uly and our driver who did a wonderful job showing us the highlights of Berlin. Instead of going with a large cruise ship tour company we actually got a great personalized tour for our interests at a better price in our own vehicle with our excellent guide and great driver. We are very pleased we chose this tour

Tour guide Brian was incredible. He was the best. From the itinerary we thought we had more time to see other sights with the driver. He took us straight back to ship. we arrived back at the ship what we thought was early.

This tour was very nice and very informative. Our tour guide was an American living and working in Berlin and he knew much about Germany's history and the sights to see in Berlin. I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in Berlin's history.

From the moment Herbert, our driver, picked us up at the ship, this tour was simply the most professional and enjoyable of all the tours and shore excursions we've taken! Herbert was prompt, the van was clean and comfortable, and the drive to and from the city included stops at a very clean rest stop that had a restaurant and gift shop, in addition to very clean restrooms. Our guide, Ashleigh met us at the Museumplatz, where we began our walking/riding tour of the city. Ashleigh was extremely knowledgeable, enhanced her commentary with black and white photos taken during World War II and the Cold War, and is absolutely passionate about Berlin and its history - all of which added to our visit to this incredible city. We provided Ashleigh with a list of attractions we hoped to see prior to our visit and she accommodated our requests and then some, including sharing her favorite spot for bratwurst and beer. From the Museumplatz to the Berlin Cathedral, from Humboldt University and St. Helwig's to Gendarmes Square, from many stops along the former Berlin Wall to Checkpoint Charlie, from the Holocaust Memorial to the Kaiser Wilhelm Church, from the Schloss Charlottenburg to the Unter den Linden and the K'dam - we did it all and in the company of two very professional, very friendly and accommodating people. If you only have one day in Berlin, we can't recommend Insider Tours enough!

3 star rating: Worth doing November 2016

I had mentioned that I am in a wheelchair on the Viator website when signing up for the tour, and it never got mentioned to the guide. Even after seeing me in a wheelchair he brought us to a restaurant where the bathroom was down a flight of stairs. There should be more mention and importance of accessibility on the Viator website. The guide was energetic and charismatic, but spoke too much and did not listen to our needs. However, being provided the opportunity to visit Berlin when the port is so far away was a great experience. Fascinating city.
