What To Expect

This full day adventure of the Big Island of Hawaii begins on the Kona coast, where you’re picked up from your Kona or Kohala hotel, and driven north on a scenic journey past historic Parker Ranch—which has operated as one of the largest ranches in America since 1847.

As you pass through the ranching town of Waimea, watch as the landscape changes from pastures to green, tropical rainforest, as sweeping views of the Hamakua Coast start creeping into view. During a stop at Waipio Valley lookout, marvel at the way the vertical cliffs seem to explode from the green valley floor and hear the tales of how King Kamehameha was raised in this valley as a child. The adventure continues as you wind your way down the Hamakua Coast, past roadside towns with singsong names until you reach Akaka Falls and Rainbow Falls.

Make your way back toward sea level at Punalu’u Beach, where you’ll take a stroll on a black-sand beach and search for Hawaiian green sea turtles. Head next to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, before rounding the southern tip of the island, the southernmost point in America. Look out for Kealakekua Bay, the spot where Captain Cook was killed in a skirmish with Native Hawaiians.

Stop at a Kona coffee farm to learn about the coffee growing process and walk through a lava tube.

Finally, your tour finishes back in Kona with a drop off at your hotel, where you’ve earned the right to plop on the bed and relax after the full day adventure.

Please note: Depending on weather conditions, your tour may operate in reverse order.

Great way to see the whole island in one day!
Jenifer_R, Aug 2022
Mia was an excellent guide! It was a fun filled day with lots of stops. Be aware that a moderate amount of walking and mobility is required to fully experience all the stops but only moderate ability is required. This is a GREAT way to see the whole island in one day! Mia kept us fed, comfortable and happy all day!!!

Kurt’s Review
Jonathan_C, Aug 2022
Kurt was very friendly and a outgoing which made it easy to ask him any questions. He was very informative, upbeat, and obviously knowledgeable. He was a great guide and kept everyone entertained as well as on time. Definitely 5 stars!
Our tour guide was amazing and so full of Hawaiian knowledge. I learned so much about the culture
Nancy_T, Aug 2022
Enjoyed seeing the black sand beach and getting to see the sea turtles. The volcano was amazing and seeing the stem vents was such a thrill. Of course the trip to the water falls was so beautiful I felt like I was on another planet.
Great tour of Big Island
Michelle_B, Aug 2022
Brett was great - very entertaining and informative. We saw all the highlights my mom was hoping for on our Big Island tour. The highlight was seeing the lava at the Kileua Caldera.
Wonderful experience
Paul_E, Aug 2022
This was a fantastic experience. The sites were just beautiful. In addition, our guide, Awana, did an amazing job of entertaining us while traveling from stop to stop. You will not be disappointed.
Rosa_C, Aug 2022
Amazing! Second tour this week with same company & Great service! Our guide was funny, knowledgeable & pointed out so many things we could have easily overlooked. The van was spacey. My only recommendation is if you have mobility issues or overweight request seats in the first 3 rows. Highly recommend this tour. Memories Forever!
Great Big Island Tour
alicemortiz, Aug 2022
Misha was a great tour guide. He provided an entertaining and educational tour of the island. He was attentive to everyone including my 11 year old son. We went to several spots including a coffee farm, volcano , waterfalls and a black sand beach- where we had a chance to see sea turtles! Lunch and snacks were also provided. Overall a great experience!
Big Island Tour with Derek.
Tom_M, Aug 2022
Derek was fantastic. He took us to a coffee farm, bakery, inside a volcano(at least as close as you can get),two different water falls. He even supplied a nice lunch at Black sands beach. He was very knowledgeable and answered all the group’s questions.
A magnificent adventure
Riley_S, Aug 2022
David was our tour guide, he was very inclusive and knowledgeable. The Waipi’o Lookout point and the Rainbow Falls were our favorite stops! You can’t beat the yummy treats from Punalu’u Bake Shop
Jennifer_M, Aug 2022
Our guide Derek was phenomenal and gave us so much history and information on the ride from each area visited. His talks make the time pass so quickly! Please note that yes this is a very long tour and a long car ride however ask yourself if you want to see all the main highlights of the island or venture out personally only to ~ get frustrated ~ and then end the day not knowing the history or reasoning behind some of the Hawaiian culture and beliefs. This tour is a must! My favorite was Volcano National Park and the Waterfalls. Waipio Valley lookout is amazing however the road to the bottom is closed to all visitors. Lunch was provided and it was actually very good compared to other tour provided meals. We had chicken, rice, potato’s and fish. Nicely portioned. I do recommend when going to the Kona Coffee and/or Bakery to make sure to pick up a sandwich and snacks. (Their pastries are wonderful) Enjoy Hawaii and everything it has to offer. Derek and Wasabi Tours was great and we would definitely go with them again.
Experience the sacredness of the Island

Peek into Paradise
Marisha_S, Jul 2022
Where to begin?! This entire experience was well worth it. We are first time visitors to the islands. My daughter was the youngest on the trip, age 11. Every stop kept her attention. The tour van was comfortable & provide good food and snacks. Each stop was well worth the experience to understand Hawaii Big Island. Simply gorgeous! Yes, it was 11 hrs. Why? You drive from beach low elevation to mountains to volcanos around the entire circumference of the island. I could have eliminated the small waterfall and saved 40 min. This would have gotten me into town quicker for dinner and sunlight. The tour guide (Alana) was the BEST! Knowledgeable, kind, and kept us on time.
Wasabi Tours + Kurt the driver = an amazing experience!
Samuel_H, Jul 2022
With a family of 5 (including 3 teenagers), we weren’t sure if an 11 hour tour would be the way to go. I assure you, it was! We were able to truly see and experience the full variety that the Big Island has to offer all in the comfort of a top end van and a highly knowledgeable driver. Speaking of our amazing driver, you absolutely must request Kurt. He’s fantastic!! So many amazing stories, never ending energy, and a gracious and professional host!! We were well educated, well fed and well hydrated the entire time. Highly recommend!!!

Julie_R, Jul 2022
We had a wonderful day exploring the big island, our tour operator Derek made this trip even more amazing with his details about the areas we visited.
Craig_H, Jul 2022
Brett our tour guide did a great job! He was a wealth of information. He had a great personality. We had 10 people in our group and everyone enjoyed it.
Wonderful experience!!!
Cindy_S, Jul 2022
It was a very wonderful experience learning about Kona coffee, eating malasadas bakery, seeing sea turtles in magic black sand beach, watching steam coming up from the crater, walking through lava tube, and hiking up to the beautiful waterfalls! Alana was our tour guide who was very knowledgeable about volcanoes and was energetic throughout the whole trip. We were provided with snacks, cold water bottles, and delicious lunch. We highly recommend this trip!!
Best tour of Big Island highlights!
Jeff_P, Jul 2022
This tour exceeded our expectations. Each stop offered an opportunity to learn something new about the Big Island. The cross-section is so diverse that something is sure to resonate with everyone: coffee farm, bake shop (where Portuguese donuts called “malasadas” come with a wide variety of toppings and fillings), Volcanoes National Park, waterfalls, volcanic steam vents, and a fresh fruit stand that sells, among other exotic fruit, white pineapple. There was a concern about spending so much time on a bus, but the stops were well spaced, with the final leg of the journey from Waimea back to Kona being the longest stretch of about an hour. Bathrooms were always available, ranging from modern (hotel-style) to basic (hiking trail). The extra amenities offered to us were also well thought out: Water bottles, chips & granola bar snacks, rain jackets, and a “bento box” style lunch of chicken on a bed of rice, purple sweet potato, and breaded fish bites. Also, hand sanitizer was available. Finally, best for last: a bouquet to our AMAZING tour guide Alana for her expert driving and being a veritable walking encyclopedia. These are often 2 separate jobs for many tourist outfits, but she is a pro at both. The inclement weather did put a damper on a couple of stops, such as the Waipi’o Valley look out and the black beach to view green sea turtles, but she managed to find substitutes to fill in so no one was left crestfallen. Throughout the course of the day the entire group asked Alana literally dozens of questions (it became a sport to see who could stump her, lol) — all of which she answered with great aplomb and good humor. And, this, often while driving through heavy rain that was visiting the island due to a hurricane that had made its way up from Mexico. From history, to food, to surfing, to volcanoes (which happens to be her field of advanced study), to you-name-it, we learned so much!! (Footnote for anyone with hearing issues: this particular guide enunciates very clearly, significantly reducing the struggle to hear over the microphone while she’s driving.) Thank you!!
Best tour!

Our tour guide Dreu made sure we got the background on everything we saw and really showed how much he cared that we enjoy ourselves and the tour. Such beautiful views, definitely recommend to everyone coming to the island for the first time.
