Overview

There are few places in all of Hawaii more historic than Kealakekua Bay, as it's the spot where Captain Cook was killed in a skirmish with native Hawaiians, and the Hawaiian monarch, King Kamehameha III was born just a few miles away. The history aside, it's also one of the best places to snorkel on the Big Island of Hawaii, and you'll have the chance to experience the beauty on this snorkeling tour from Kona. Search for dolphins on the way to bay while admiring the volcanic coast, and after scouring the red for coral and fish, climb aboard for a lunch that's served by the friendly crew.
  • Visit historic Kealakekua Bay
  • Search for and swim with wild dolphins
  • View Humpback whales in winter
  • Cruise the volcanic Kona coast
  • Lunch and snorkeling equipment included

We were three adults! Nice crew, explained all the safety rules and what to expect. They were patient with everyone. The snorkeling was beautiful. I would recommend.

This was an enjoyable experience, however we didnt get to swim with the dolphins due to weather conditions. I would suggest, dont book in advance through Viator, just wait until youre on the island and book directly through the local bookings offices as weather conditions change. However its was still a beautiful snorkeling experience at Kealakekua Bay and the lunch and snacks were plentiful and tasty.

Great crew... friendly and lots of fun. Took us right to the dolphins, then on to some of the best snorkeling on the big island. Beautiful views along the way. Highly recommend!

My husband and I were celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary. The captain and crew were so warm, welcoming and knowledgeable about the dolphins and the area in general. It was truely an amazing experience.

Captain Mike and Jacob were great, they explained things well and were very patient with us beginners. This was the top experience for my family while visiting the big island. They were unable to legally get us in swimming with some spinner dolphins so the owner, Simon offered us a FREE return visit. We would have loved to take them up on it but just didn't have the time. You will not be disappointed if you book any adventure with the guys at Hangloose!

It is a wonderful trip. The staffs are friendly and professional. It is fun to swim with dolphin. The snorkeling in Kealakekua is exceptional and best in Hawaii.

Wow. Talk about an amazing experience. We went to a beautiful quiet bay to snorkel and see the most beautiful variety of sea life and have the humbling experience to share the space with such wonderful creatures like dolphins. Jacob from Hang Loose made sure we were all safe in the water and the Captain kept us well positioned and kept the boat ride exciting.

This was the worst trip we have ever taken. The captain spotted a boat that was fishing that had a fish on the line. He circled the fishing boat until they caught the beautiful sailfish. The fishing boat then gaffed the fish and clubbed it to death. Our captain, Tim Bates, then blew his horn and applauded. My wife and I were very upset by this scene. My wife was crying. We came to see live fish. If we wanted to catch fish, we would have booked a fishing trip. I told Tim how upset the fishing scene had made my wife. He said that big game fishing is big in Hawaii and we need to accept the reality of death. Later he took me aside and told me how I had ruined everyone's trip. I really don't think anyone else knew how upset we were, especially with the loudness of the boat engine. We felt like we were at the Captain's mercy. We wanted to get off but we had to listen to his long winded history of Hawaii. This captain was an insensitive and egotistical blowhard. We were glad when the trip was over.
