  • Walk to the 4,000-foot (1,240-meter) summit of Kilauea and view Halema'uma'u Crater
  • Included deli-style picnic lunch and dinner at a local restaurant

Receive a morning pickup from your Waikaloa or Kona hotel from a luxurious high-ceiling Mercedes van. Before proceeding on your first volcanic adventure, you’ll fuel up with an early deli-style lunch served along the Big Island’s historic Saddle Road.

Enjoy your first hike of the day at Mauna Ulu, spending 2.5 hours trekking to visit the steaming crater mouth of this volcanic site. Your well-trained guide will ensure your hike through this active volcanic area goes off safely and smoothly. Depending on the weather on the day of your visit, you might even be able to see the ongoing eruption happening at nearby Pu’u O’o.

Proceed to your next hike, a 2-hour round trip that follows a ridge before traversing the crater floor of Kilauea Iki. As you travel along the ridge, you’ll observe the unique flora and fauna of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park ecosystem, including the area’s native Ohia trees. Once you arrive down on the crater floor, marvel at the amazing scenery, which includes surreal lava formations and smoky steam plumes.

Take a brief hike through a lava tube before continuing to the 4,000-foot (1,240-meter) summit of Kilauea itself. This relatively easy walk will bring you into view of Halema'uma'u Crater, where you can admire the glowing red of the lava that lies just below the surface. Finish the day with dinner at a local-style eatery before getting dropped off at your hotel.

Everything would have changed now due to the recent volcano activity. But... This tour was really really great. We saw so much in one day, it was unbelievable how much ground we covered. Note: You must be physically able to do a bit of hiking ! Our guide took the time to explain alot to us as we were hiking worth the money for sure!

This tour was an amazing experience. Our guide was laid back, knowledgeable and funny. It was impressive when we stopped at the base of Mauna Ulu to give a prayer of thanks before climbing to the summit. We did this tour before the current eruption began to change things, so parts of what we saw are now changed forever. We were so fortunate to have a guide who knew all the little ins and outs of where to go and who to talk with. We stopped to pick fresh wild growing fruits that none of us had ever seen or tasted. He took us to the Southern most Bakery in the US for lunch and it was just fantastic. We even stopped briefly to see the black sand beach and as if on que there was a sea turtle there. We look forward to retuning to The Big Island and we hope to be able to use him again. Things will be much different now and we are excited to experience it all. Thank you and mahalo.

Michael Nelson, our Volcano adventure guide from Hawaii Adventures Now!, was extremely knowledgeable of Volcano National Park. We would never have hiked to some of the remote areas in the park without the guidance of an experienced guide. Michael's knowledge of volcanoes, the fauna in the area and formation of the various geographic features was extensive and he readily shared his vast knowledge and enthusiasm. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate for the night hike and our view of the volcano's glow was very limited. But, the hike was one of the highlights of our trip.

Mike was a FANTASTIC tour guide. He was extremely kind, knowledgeable and friendly!! The tour was lengthy but not too intense. There were times when I was pushed a bit physically but nothing that I couldn't handle - even at 54 years of age.

Mike knew so much about Hawaii and had great stories to share!!

Our group was fun because we all liked to talk.

If you like a little physical challenge and enjoy learning more about the history and culture of Hawaii, this is the tour for you. This tour was the highlight of our trip!!

We had a great day on this tour and were spoilt to only have our family along so had the full attention of tour guide Mike. There is a fair bit of walking as expected on a hiking adventure!! but these are well worth it and our three kids under 10 were fine with it all, not to mention VERY proud to have knocked over more than 20000 steps for the day! The tour is well catered with rain jackets, warm jackets, torches/flashlights etc provided as required and so you really only need to bring yourself and your walking shoes. Mike was super informative, friendly and helpful and we highly recommend this tour. Thanks Mike!

This was a wonderful day out. Mike and Ian picked us up at our hotel at 0930 hours and we returned at 2330 hours
and provided us with a thoroughly engaging trip based on the the Big Island's history, flora and fauna, geology,
geography, the volcanos, and the stars at night. The walks were excellent and well within the capability of the
average middle aged person.
I thoroughly recommend this excursion.

Great Experience!! I was expecting a 3 crater hike but I did not expect all the extra's. Mike and Ian treated us like family. We made several stops along the way to experience the local flavors with behind the scenes knowledge of the Big Island. The hike is challenging but absolutely worth it!!

This was a highlight of our week long visit to the Big Island. Our guide Mike was everything you would want in a guide, friendly, knowledgeable, keen, knows all the great local places for lunch and dinner the poke stop in Hilo was excellent and has some great photo tricks :.
The tour is a long but enjoyable day. We hiked between 8-10 miles, Mike kept us fully hydrated and was able to take us on some off the trial routes that not all tour operators would, while also timing the view points so you miss the crowds and get the best views possible.
We couldn't thank Mike enough for a truly wonderful experience.

Hands down the highlight of our trip to the big island of Hawaii. Our tour guide Mike really made it a wonderful and enchanting day. Once we got to the island, we checked in and got a nice call back confirming our pick up time and what to expect. The night before we got an additional follow up call from Mike to lock in the exact time of our pickup. When we saw the van pull up, I took a quick look at my watch and he was pulling in at the exact time he mentioned he would be. The van we rode around in all day was roomy and comfortable. It was loaded with bottled water, jackets, backpacks, ponchos, and even some snacks that were there for us to use. The tour itself was amazing. Mike is full of knowledge of the island, volcanoes, the stars, and loads of other information. Our group had 7 people 2 being my wife and myself and Mike did a great job of accommodating with different peoples needs and interests throughout the entire day. Before spending the day with Mike, my wife and I wondered if we should have just tackled the park on our own. There was so much we would have missed if it was not for Mike and experiences we would have never even thought to have that really made the day an unforgettable experience. If your on the big island of Hawaii, and considering a visit to Vocanos National Park just sign up for the Triple Crater Hawaii Volcano Hiking Adventure and you will not be sorry.

Mike has an incredible wealth of knowledge about the island which he shares in his very unassuming way. Everything from food, coffee, the local plants, the history of the people and the island, the land formations, rocks, volcanoes, and the stars and moon too! This was a full day of sightseeing the south part of the island and an awesome 3 hikes in the volcanoes. An incredible adventure!

Just my travel companion, myself and another couple that our leader determined were Up for the Best for both where we went and enjoyed on the treks but also for our lunch and dinner unique to Hawaii and great. Exciting -- and a bit risky in places but really a great outing -- from 10:30AM until 11:30PM, a real work-out but worth it !!

Mike wash our guide on a day in which it rained all day. Having said that he made the most of it and gave us a great tour. He modified the tour to try to chase the sun. His knowledge of the volcano park, the island history and myth, geology, flora and fauna was remarkable. He made the tour. Our view of the active lava was truly amazing, I will never forget it. I would book with him again.

This is an amazing tour. As other's have said, Mike is the best tour guide. He was very knowledgeable, considerate, and compassionate. We had a small group as a group of 6 cancelled at the last minute, so he used that extra time to show us more. He took pictures for us and did some amazing things with my iPhone. This is definitely a hiking adventure with time to enjoy a lot of the volcanic and hawaiian landscape. Highly recommend.
