What You Can Expect

San Sebastian and Biarritz

San Sebastian and Biarritz

Depart from your centrally located Bilbao hotel and climb aboard your comfortable, air-conditioned minivan. Travel through the seaside splendor of the region and arrive at San Sebastian, a city considered the Basque Country’s most beautiful; embark upon a panoramic city tour with your accomplished guide, wandering the narrow alleys of the historical quarter and viewing the iconic Igeldo Mountain.

Next, venture closer to the French border in order to visit historical Hondarribia, a traditional town that boasts an ancient medieval fortress and a picturesque point. Explore the pretty pueblo independently and visit rustic restaurants recommended by your guide for lunch.

Climb aboard a boat and cruise the curves of the coastline on your way to Hendaya, sailing over the shimmering sea and absorbing splendid sights. Return to the van and venture to Saint Jean De Luz, a quaint village located on the French Basque coast; visit the house of Louis XIV and the charming Church of Saint Jean Baptist after strolling the ambient streets.

Finally, approach the soft and silken sands of Biarritz, affectionately termed the ‘Beach of Kings’ due to the quality of its blissful beach. Famed for the frequent visits of Napoleon III, Frank Sinatra and Gary Cooper, the enclave is a popular holiday destinations among locals. Relax during the ride back to Bilbao, where the tour concludes.

This tour was really enjoyable. Only thing is with all the stops we made, the tour should be split into two separate tours. We did not have enough time to spend in each place. Our tour guide, Pedro was wonderful. Especially being so patient speaking in both English and Spanish. After seeing these places, we know we want to go back and spend more time there.

Pedro, our guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the cities we visited. He was able to work well with both English and Spanish translations. Felt we had ample time at the stops. The only downside was a brief shower at the beginning of San Sebastián then the sun came out

It's good that the excursion schedule wasn't very strict: we could ask to spend more time somewhere or to stop somewhere for taking pictures at some picturesque place that was not in the plan.
We liked the idea of crossing the border in two different ways (by car and by boat). We also enjoyed beatiful viewpoints and landscapes of Basque Country, and of course our guide telling a lot of stories. We didn't get bored for a single minute of this journey!
