Clays knowledge of Birmingham’s civil rights struggle is commendable. We were able to share, discuss, evaluate and understand. His wealth of knowledge through living in Birmingham, extensive reading and personal interaction brought life to the tour.

Clay was absolutely awesome and knows his stuff. This tour should be a requirement for all school age kids in the state of Alabama and quite possibly the whole country! Job well done!
Definitely a worthwhile experience

Mike was an excellent tour guide! We learned a tremendous amount of history about Birmingham’s struggle for civil rights spanning 100 years between 1865 and 1965. Thank you!
Excellent experience!

Absolutely brilliant tour, learnt so much from Clay about the history of this town and the challenges they faced. Clay takes you off the beaten track and brings to life the atrocities of the past. He is passionate and extremely knowledgable. Would highly recommend, was without a doubt the best thing we did in Birmingham.

Did a stop in Birmingham as we travelled from Nashville to New Orleans. We opted to do the Birmingham Civil Rights Tour and we did not regret it. Best tour we have done in recent memory and worth the stop in Birmingham. Mike, our tour guide, was excellent. The content and sights were A1.
A Must See Tour

Mike did a terrific job of explaining the civil rights movement and the oppression it faced in Birmingham back in the day. A multi-pronged and very moving tour. I'm glad I went and I highly recommend it.
Don't pass up!!! Excellent and great value!

Clay, owner of Red Clay Tours, was our guide for this Civil Rights tour. He is extremely knowledgeable and gave detailed background for the events of the 50s in Birmingham. Although I knew the broad strokes, his tour and explanation filled in details and brought to life the times and actors of the city's history. I appreciated the way he contextualized the information within the CR movement as a whole and Birmingham's history as a city, and learned much that I hadn't known. Very well run. Good mix between walking and being driven. I could always hear Clay. Kudos! One of the best history tours. Do ask questions -- Clay's a native born Birmingham resident and has much to say.

Lawrence_R, Apr 2022
Two of us took the tour with Mike and though we're both retired and likely should have known more about the events in Birmingham, we were surprised about how little we knew about the central role of Rev. Shuttlesworth. Mike was a great tour guide and had a wealth of information at his fingertips.

Great rainy day tour.
Emily_L, Apr 2022
I received a phone call from the tour operator warning me that there might be heavy rain during our tour. I chose to continue and it was a good decision. I had a private tour! Mike was a terrific guide and shared import history and context.
Learn your history and make life better from what you learn.

The guide was superb. He highlighted the history of race relations in Birmingham and the principal people in the conflict between the races. It is a tragic story with heroes among those pursuing a better life for Black people and bad people on the city and state level in Alabama during the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. My wife and I learned a lot even though we closely followed the news of the civil rights struggle in the south at the time. I strongly recommend the tour especially for young people of all races. There is much to learn from Birmingham's history.
