Begin your full-day adventure with a 9am pick-up from your central Varna hotel and enjoy the ocean views as you head south along Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast. After around an hour and a half drive, arrive in UNESCO-listed Nesebar, a medieval town perched on a rocky peninsula.
Follow your guide around the town’s ancient ruins and learn about its impressive collection of churches, which include the Church of St Sophia and the 6th-century Basilica of the Holy Mother of God Eleusa. After tracing Nesebar’s history through Byzantine, Bulgarian and Ottoman rule, enjoy free time to browse the souvenir shops or tuck into a delicious seafood lunch (own expense) at a local restaurant.
After few hours in Nesebar, enjoy a quick photo stop in the port city of Burgas, before continuing to Sozopol, where the Old Town is famous for its distinctive architecture. Learn the characteristics of the Black Sea school of architecture as you admire the wood and stone buildings, dating back from the mid-18th-century, and see fine examples including The Marieta Stefanova House, The Kreanoolu House, The Todor Zagorov House and The Dimitri Laskaridis House.
After a full day exploring the Black Sea Coast, journey back to Varna, where your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel around 7.30pm.
