As you travel, soak in the country views and learn fascinating facts about the truffles found in the region from your guide. After a short while, arrive in Savigno, a charming small village famous for its black and white truffles.
Hop out to visit Appennino Food, an acclaimed local producer of truffles and truffle specialities. The company holds the record for the world’s largest ever truffle (tuber magnatum pico), weighing 52.3323 ounces (1,483 grams). Take a tour of the factory to see how these natural treasures are processed and crafted into products such as truffle oils, creams, and sauces with vegetables and mushrooms.
Next, head into the wooded hills for a 1-hour truffle hunt with a licensed truffle hunter and their trusty dog. Be charmed by the relationship between hunter and his canine companion, and learn about the unique symbiosis of trees and truffles as the dog searches the forest floor.
After the hunt, tantalize your taste buds with a delicious wine tasting session, and then head for Amerigo 1934, a traditional trattoria specializing in truffles and mushroom dishes, and awarded a Michelin star.
Take in the delightfully rustic interior, and savor a 5-course dégustation menu (tasting menu) conceived by chef Alberto Bettini and his wife Marina. Enjoy dishes made with everything from black truffles to mushrooms and seasonal vegetables, all with wine pairings. The truffle dishes will be based on seasonality, with white truffles (tuber magnatum pico) from September to December, Bianchetto Truffles ( tuber albidum pico) between January and April, and Black Summer Truffle (tuber aestivum vitt) from May to September.
Following your meal, enjoy a ride back to Bologna where your truffle experience ends with a hotel drop-off.
