What You Can Expect

Private Tour: Bora Bora Lagoon or Deep Sea Fishing

Bora Bora Deep Sea Fishing

Cruise to idyllic fishing spots in the lagoon or deep-sea waters surrounding Bora Bora during a private morning or afternoon tour, starting with pickup from your selected hotel or the Vaitape pier. Meet your captain aboard a 17-foot (5.2-meter) Boston Whaler Montauk, which ensures a stable, dry ride with ample room for fishing gear.

After a safety briefing, settle under the sun shade and be whisked away to your Bora Bora fishing destination. Along the way, your captain shares in-depth knowledge of French Polynesian culture and the finned creatures inhabiting these clear tropical waters.

Choose from two options, each suitable for beginning or experienced anglers. You can release, keep or share your catch, which is stored on ice until you return to shore. Check with your hotel to see if the kitchen is equipped to prepare a meal for you with your catch.

End a memorable 4-hour fishing trip with the return to your hotel or the pier.

Lagoon Fishing:
Your expert captain provides light tackle well-suited for the calmer waters of the Bora Bora lagoon. Troll for jacks, rainbow runner, bluefin trevally, bigeye trevally, small barracuda, lagoon bonito, needle fish, snapper and grouper. If you like, your captain can take you close to the barrier reef, where you can try spinning or popping. If you have your own fly-fishing gear with you, your captain can take you to good fly-fishing spots inside the lagoon. Some bonefish live around Bora Bora; however, the coral makes them difficult to catch. At times, big jacks that weigh more than 30 pounds (14 kg) can make a surprise appearance, but generally fish sizes vary from a half pound (250 grams) to 10 pounds (5 kg). This private trip allows a maximum of four people.

Deep Sea Fishing:
Cruise outside the Bora Bora reef to fishing grounds that promise an excellent deep sea experience. Your captain provides high-quality rods, reels and bait. Try your hand at catching jacks, wahoo, mahi-mahi, barracuda, bonito and yellowfin tuna. If you’re lucky, you might even hook a sailfish or marlin. If you are new to deep sea fishing, your captain shares tips and instructions on appropriate fishing techniques. Experienced fishers benefit from the captain’s intimate knowledge of these waters. This private trip allows a maximum of two people, ensuring focused attention from your captain.

My father and I went out for a hal-day of deep sea fishing, and it was super fun. We were able to catch a nice pair of yellow fin tuna. The captain knew just where to go and knew a lot about the area.

We fished with George and Robert in the lagoon around Bora Bora in a 17' Boston Whaler. The boat had a cover that allowed for shade when we wanted it. We trolled using small squid artificial lures. We caught 4 different types of fish, probably caught 7 fish and enjoyed the guides. The fish were small, but I understand that you need to go outside the barrier reef to catch bigger fish. The weather was nice, but we just wanted to enjoy smaller surf and see the island while fishing. Next time we will go outside the reef.

George and Robert took us to a place where another guide friend they knew was feeding a stingray with man and his wife. There were about 30 small blacktip Sharks swimming around in the shallow water and I got some great underwater shots with my GoPro on a GoPro stick. If you want to catch big fish, go outside the reef. I would use these guides again.

It was wonderful! Bob did a great job brining us around the island where the fish were. My husband got two fish and was really happy with the experience.

We had a wonderful time on the Lagoon fishing trip. We caught 4 fish and then Bob, our captain, jumped from the boat with a speargun and got 3 more. It was awesome. In addition to the great fishing, we were able to sightsee as well. We saw sharks and lots of rays. The resort cooked up our fish for the next couple nights. Delicious!

We chose the lagoon fishing for the calmer waters. The fishing was ok as it wasn't the best time of year. Our guide Bob was great and took us around the entire island, what a great way to see the island. We ended it up with 8 nice size Trevally Jacks. After all, it is fishing and not catching. Fishermen understand that. Thank you for an amazing outing. We would definitely do this again!

Small boat but we were able to catch 3 nice size fish, a mahi mahi, a tuna and a baracuda I think. My wife got a lil sick on the small boat. We were able to give most of the fish to a local and his family after they cleaned the fish for us.

Great tour. A shame the weather wasn't great making it hard to catch anything.

A bit more info on the area and what was going on while setting up etc would have been good.

Loved the swim in the lagoon with black tip reef sharks. A shame the boat wasn't prepared with snorkels just in case. A great back up if no fish are biting.

2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better September 2016

Disappointed that we did not each have a fishing pole. Beautiful day. Pleasant host.

1 star rating: I do not recommend this June 2017

The boat that showed up for a Deep Sea Fishing tour was a small single engine boat with a sunshade. It was not a boat anyone would want to take out past the reef, especially on a windy day. The swells were 10-12 feet high, and there were no life jackets in sight. The small boat was tossed around like piece of driftwood. After a short frightening interval, the captain suggested we go back to the lagoon. There were 2 fishing rods that had no reels, we were told to wrap the fishing line with our fingers. We caught 3 small fish, 2 of which we kept and had prepared at the restaurant at our hotel for lunch. It was not a professional tour, and I should have waited till I got to Bora Bora to hire a boat that was suitable for deep sea fishing. I think the boat captain had no intention of deep sea fishing and was not prepared to do so. Meanwhile, others in our party rented a suitable boat during the week we were there and caught a 200 lb marlin.
