Saint-Emilion Day Trip from Bordeaux: Château Wine Tastings and Lunch

Saint-Emilion Wine Tasting Day Trip from Bordeaux

Head to the the Bordeaux Tourist Office in the morning for your full-day wine tour. Relax aboard the air-conditioned coach as you travel to St-Emilion. On your way there, your guide will give you an overview of Bordeaux and its many wineries and vineyards.
Arrive in the St-Emilion AOC (Appellation d'origine contrôlée), a beautiful UNESCO World Heritage-listed wine region. One of the principal red wine areas of the Bordeaux wine region, St-Emilion is known for its blended grape varieties, particularly merlot, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon.
Your first stop is a classified growth château — Château Figeac, Château Beau-Sejour Becot or Château Canon — where you’ll take a tour of the cellar to learn about the winemaking process and enjoy a tasting of the château’s finest wines.
Next, head to Château Haute-Sarpe. Admire a beautiful view of the vineyards, visit the wine cellar, and taste the estate's elite Grand Cru wines before sitting down to a lovely buffet lunch.
You’ll spend the afternoon exploring the village of St-Emilion itself, which dates back to the 8th century and is full of fascinating medieval history. Your guide will take you to the remarkable underground monuments and then give you free time to discover the town’s wine shops, cafés and boutiques on your own.
Return to Bordeaux around 5:30pm.

This was a great tour. We started promptly at the time stated! Our tour guide, Laurence Pontallier was great! Very informative, funny and kind. She also kept us on our toes so we would not fall behind with the time. The winery's we visited were very informative. The second winery where we had a male guide was very funny and kept our attention! The food here was also great! Although this was a wine tour I found the old village of St Emillion the most interesting! We went down to the underground church and climbed the bell tower!! Went shopping in this town too!

Very informative and pleasant. The St Emilion Chateaus are not as grand as the Medoc ones, but they are charming nonetheless. A beautiful location and delicious lunch. Well done.

The tour was excellent. There was lots of information from each vineyard without too much redundancy. The lunch was great with lots of wine! The tour through the underground church in St Emilion was impressive, and the free time in town to explore was nice.

This was a great full day trip. The guide was very good. The 2 chateau we went to were excellent, very informative and lovely wine. Full marks to Chateau Haute Sarpe, our guide here Philipe was so amusing, showing us around the chateau. Lovely views of the vineyards, loved the little nightclub they have called Glou Glou, imagine the fun they had there. At lunch, Philipe put on a jesters hat and we all had such a fantastic buffet lunch with some very nice wine. We then went on to Saint Emilion a lovely UNESCO Medieval village where we had a couple of hours free time. Highly recommend this full day trip.

The group was a little larger than we expected (about 30) but it didn't prove an issue. The guide was very pleasant and informative although listening to the information repeated in French can get a bit tiring by the end of the day. The smorgasbord lunch at the winery was superb, meat, duck, cheeses and salads. This washed down with the hosts great wines (we finished 5 bottles on our table of 8) was a real treat. The guided tour of St Emilion after lunch was interesting but a bit of a slog.........would recommend this to be moved to before lunch.

We appreciate wine but I wouldn't describe ourselves as experts and this tour was perfect for us. Very interesting and informative, but also fun. The buffet lunch was excellent. The coach was clean, comfortable and air conditioned Saint-Emilion is a beautiful village, definitely worth visting.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable tour. We had great guides explaining the history and the 'science' of wine making. To add to that there was a lovely variety of friendly people on the tour. The town of ST Emilion was incredibly picturesque. I would thoroughly recommend this tour.

We have taken this tour before but did it again with our friends who had not been. The guide at the first Chateau was very knowledgeable and interesting although she had a challenge curtailing some of the behaviours of other party members who continuously "clicked" and chattered over her. Unfortunately our tour of the second Chateau was disappointing for us this time as the usual guide was preparing lunch and his replacement didn't speak English so our main tour guide had to interpret and translate. However the lunch provided was as good as we remembered and our friends enjoyed their experience, it was just us who were a little disappointed in comparison to our last visit where we enjoyed the attention of our previous host through the entire tour and all through lunch.
