Traveler Tips

There is allot of walking so if it's cold, could be challenging but our guide was so entertaining we didn't mind the weather.
If you are looking for tour that covers some revolutionary war history and more recent Boston history, this is a great tour.

Great intro to Boston
April_K, May 2023
Allen was a great tour guide! Perfect start to a trip to Boston especially if you are new to the city.
Response from Host, May 2023
I appreciate your kind words.

The history of Boston is amazing. We love little Italy and the amazing cannoli and all the local pubs
Response from Host, Apr 2023
Agree that the history of Boston IS amazing. We share our love for the North End, cannoli and local pubs. Add in interesting architecture too!
Good tour.
Christi_N, Nov 2022
Good tour. Informative and friendly. It was challenging to hear the guide in some spots because of the noise around us. He had great recommendations for a place to get hot chocolate and have lunch after the tour. Would recommend.
Response from Host, Nov 2022
Happy you enjoyed the tour and recommended food places. Next time let the guide know you are having difficulty hearing so he can mitigate that.
Learned so much!
Alex_C, Nov 2022
We started at the State House and immediately I was learning so many things about the history of Boston. The walk was pretty mild and you don't have to get far for a new, good story because, well, Boston. Our guide was SO nice. He was a Boston local and was so sweet! We had lots of questions and he knew the answers to every single one and always had a great joke up his sleeve. Boston has so much really neat history that you would never know unless someone told you, and that's exactly what we wanted this tour to do for us. It delivered!
Response from Host, Nov 2022
So happy you enjoyed the tour and sounds as if you fell in love with Boston! Maybe we'll see more of you....
Awesome tour
Marta_G, Oct 2022
Great tour and very informative.!!!! He spoke a lot about the history of Boston and wen to the historical sites.
Response from Host, Nov 2022
Happy you enjoyed the historic aspects of the tour.
Not the full Freedom Trail = Disappointment
Kayla_B, Oct 2022
This tour doesn’t include the full freedom trail. It covered a lot of architecture which I wasn’t very interested in. Also, you get pointed to look in directions of potential photo opportunities however if you break away to take some you could potentially lose the group. For me, this wasn’t the best option, and I wouldn’t take this tour again. Though others in the group enjoyed it.
Response from Host, Nov 2022
I am sorry you felt disappointed, but we never say this tour covers the Whole Freedom Trail. We specifically say the Downtown portion from Faneuil Hall to Boston Common and the State House, which covers 11 of the 16 total Freedom Trail sites plus a whole lot more, including architecture (as you noted). There is of course opportunity for pictures during the tour, but not if you "break away" as you say.
Be read for a walk!
Kalli_R, Oct 2022
My favorite part was the cemetery, a few famous people in history are buried there. I also enjoyed seeing the end of the Boston Marathon & hearing historical stories from our guide
Response from Host, Oct 2022
The Granary Cemetery is certainly one of Boston's Highlights. Happy you enjoyed the stories and our "running" of the Boston Marathon.
Wouldn’t recommend
Joseph_L, Oct 2022
Wasn’t quite what I was expecting (and maybe that was one me)! I learned more about the trail from a YouTube video! Guide also insulted us for visiting Salem on our trip! He was knowledgeable but felt it was in a pretentious way, i enjoyed the 5 minute YouTube video more than this tour! Wouldn’t not recommend
Response from Host, Oct 2022
It would really have helped if you said what you were expecting versus what you received. Not sure why you were insulted about whatever was said about Salem (although I don't know what that might be) and sorry you took personally whatever else was said.
Great tour & tour guide
Cheryl_W, Oct 2022
Our guide was fabulous !!! Great tour. The city is just beautiful. Our guide made everyone so welcome and took his time answering questions
Response from Host, Oct 2022
Happy you enjoyed the tour and found Boston beautiful!
Great History and Site Seeing
Julianne_S, Oct 2022
It was our first time in Boston, and we wanted to hear some of the rich history. We really enjoyed the tour.
Response from Host, Oct 2022
Boston's history is quite rich. Glad you enjoyed the tour!
Sort of underwhelming
Jordan_R, Oct 2022
The tour started off well with some history. Once we ventured into Beacon Hill for the second half of the tour, there was very little content. I would suggest a separate Freedom Trail tour that is highly rated. And then a Beacon Hill tour would be lovely as well. This one missed the mark. Not much fun for kids or adults.
Response from Host, Oct 2022
There IS a separate Freedom Trail Tour available for those who wish to concentrate on the older history of Boston. Just so you know, many folks enjoy the additional walk through Beacon Hill and Back Bay, including the Public Garden, the beautiful 19th century architecture and the stories of how they were created. Sorry you were not one of them.
Wonderful experience
Barry_W, Oct 2022
Our guide was very knowledgeable and kept our interest with a mix of humor and interesting facts. Highly recommend
Very interesting tour
Sam_S, Oct 2022
A great tour from a very knowledgeable, local guide, without the kitschy dramatization of other tours. Highly recommend!
Response from Host, Oct 2022
Thanks! Glad you can appreciate that.
Great tour
Valerie_D, Oct 2022
Our guide was amazing! He had a lot of background info about the history of Boston. There is a lot of walking on this tour
Response from Host, Oct 2022
Glad you enjoyed the tour!
Spectacular tour of history in Boston
Judy_T, Sep 2022
Wonderful guide - had humor, told lots of stories with numerous buildings of history. Interesting with different eras with homes
Response from Host, Oct 2022
Most folks enjoy the combination of history, architecture, culture... and humor.
Historical Fun
Phyllis_D, Sep 2022
Our guide Richard conveyed lots of historical facts and our group was only 10 people so it was easy to hear.
Historic
Gail_H, Sep 2022
The personal stories of the tour guide. He had relatives that were part of Boston’s early history. He also shared the personalities of some of the historic people
Response from Host, Sep 2022
Andrew's family history makes a great addition to the tour.
Great tour and guide
Ray_R, Sep 2022
Tour guide was exceptional. Very knowledgeable, entertaining, learned a lot that I used today and tomorrow.
Response from Host, Sep 2022
Using our walking tour early on is a great idea for planning!
Awesome guide and tour.

Just right
Deborah_C, Aug 2022
Alan was knowledgeable, easy going, friendly. He was open to questions and had a great sense of humor. He paced the tour well despite the distance and amount of info covered. We’d highly recommend to anyone wanting know more about Boston and colonial America.
Response from Host, Aug 2022
We love your review!!
Great Freedom Trail tour!
William_T, Aug 2022
Very interesting tour - Andrew was a great tour guide! We were most interested in learning more about the specific players and the role they played in the early days of the American Revolution.
Response from Host, Aug 2022
Andrew is very knowledgeable and interesting!
Ok
Amy_K, Aug 2022
Was decent. Not the best tour I've been on but wasn't terrible, so I rated it average. Some interesting stories. 2nd half didn't have as many stories.
Response from Host, Aug 2022
We try very hard not to be just "decent" but strive to be the very best. Sorry you didn't feel that. Contact us for a refund if you would like.
Great intro tour to Boston
John_A, Aug 2022
Great introduction to Boston. Great for kids 8 and up. Takes a little over 2 hours. Slow to moderate pace you do not have to be in great shape.
Fascinating and Unique Boston Facts!
Tricia_B, Jul 2022
We had such a great time learning about Boston! Our guide, Andrew, was very knowledgeable and kept us laughing with cool stories about historical figures, some familiar, but many I had never heard of as well! My favorite part was learning about many women, left out of my history book, who helped to make Boston the great city that it is!
I wanted a tour of text...
Rebecca_B, Jul 2022
I wanted a tour of text book Boston/American history. This was not it. The tour guide was very animated and knowledgeable, but we barely were on the freedom trail the whole tour.
Response from Host, Jul 2022
I am not sure I understand. You chose a tour that includes the Downtown Freedom Trail plus Beacon and Back Bay. The Downtown Freedom Trail is the "textbook" American History you said you want and is about 60% of the tour. The rest is quintessential Boston - Beacon Hill, where the Boston aristocracy lives, and beautiful 19th century architecture Back Bay. That is what you signed up for, right?
Not your ordinary walking tour
Patricia_D, Jul 2022
Our tour guide went off parts of the traditional walking tour so we could gain even more history of Boston. He was extremely knowledgeable and had many interesting details of the places and landmarks we visited.
Response from Host, Jul 2022
Happy you enjoyed our foray into what makes Boston Boston. We love it when you can feel it!
Educational Experience for all!
annettecowhy, Jun 2022
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the city. It is an educational experience for all ages. Great way to learn more about our US History. I would highly recommend this tour. However, one needs to remember this is a walking tour so there is extensive walking up and down the streets.
Response from Host, Jun 2022
Hope you enjoyed the tour as well!
Wealth of Knowledge
seegerfam, Jun 2022
Allen did a fabulous job with our tour. He was a perfect mix of history, architecture, fun and cleverness. He also was a wealth of knowledge. We would highly recommend this walking tour.
Response from Host, Jun 2022
Just the mix we were going for!!
