What You Can Expect

Bratislava City Highlights Walking Tour

Explore the highlights of Bratislava on this city walking tour

Start your tour at the Radisson Blu Carlton hotel in central Bratislava. Meet your knowledgeable guide, and as you stroll to Primatial Square in the Old Town, listen to revealing facts about Bratislava’s long and turbulent history.

Admire the elegant, pink-and-white Primatial Palace (Primaciálny Palác) on the square, and learn how it was built in the late 1700s. Hear stories of how, in 1805, it presided over Napoleon’s signing of the Peace of Pressburg treaty following his defeat at the Battle of Austerlitz.

Continue to Bratislava’s bustling Main Square and view the Old Town Hall, the oldest of its kind in Slovakia. Discover how it served as the city’s principal marketplace and public space, and was home to a prison and minting factory. Today, the hall houses the Bratislava City Museum, and boasts a tower with sweeping views over the higgledy-piggledy rooftops of the Old Town.

Walk on to Franciscan Square, a pretty square named after its 18th-century Franciscan church and monastery. Cast your eye over the pastel-colored Baroque houses and pose for photos outside the Mirbach Palace, a graceful Rococo-styled residence dating from 1770.

Head inside 15th-century St Martin's Cathedral, Bratislava’s biggest church, and as you explore, hear tales of the eleven Hungarian kings who were crowned here while Budapest was under Turkish occupation.

Along the way, delve down some of the Old Town’s most charming lanes to check out more historical buildings and monuments. As you walk, your guide will point out interesting shops and lesser-known spots that you may want to explore on your own later.

After around an hour, your tour then finishes at the original starting point.

We had a very informative day with Zdenka a lovely lady. She showed us parts of the town we would never have found without her e.g. the tin museum which was amazing. There was only two of us on the walk and the weather being so beautiful which enhanced the whole experience.

The guide was very informative. She gave so much history in such a short time. I learned more from her in that 1 hour than I did in reading about Bratislava before the tour.

The tour was brief, and in some ways 1hour is not enough for the guide to give any detail. It was also more expensive than the 2.5 hour tour we took in Vienna. We would have liked more detail on the split between the Czech and Slovak countries, WW2 and everyday life.
