What You Can Expect

Bratislava City Tour with Optional Devin Castle Visit

Upgrade to include an optional visit to the famous ruins of Devin Castle

Your tour will begin with pickup at your hotel in Bratislava. Your guide will drive you to the city center, providing an introduction of the region's rich history as you go.

Arrive in Bratislava’s Old Town to explore the brightly-colored buildings of the Main Square and the Old Town Hall, dating back to the 15th-century. Admire St Michael’s Gate, the only remaining medieval tower gate in the city.

Afterward, walk to the Primatial Square, home to the neoclassical Primatial Palace (Primaciálny Palác). If it’s open on the day of your tour, head inside to see the interior artwork and famed Hall of Mirrors.

Follow your guide past the Reduta building, home of the Slovak Philharmonic, to St Martin’s Cathedral, where coronations for 11 Austro-Hungarian monarchs took place. Hop back in the car and continue to sightsee, driving past Bratislava Castle, the Presidential Palace and the Slavín War Memorial. Your tour will conclude with drop-off back at your hotel.

If you choose to upgrade your ticket, continue your tour with a visit to Devín Castle. Drive 10 minutes outside of the city to see the incredible ruins of this 8th-century castle, perched above the rivers of the Morava and Danube. Explore the museum independently at your own expense and learn how it was destroyed in 1809 by Napoleon’s army. Soak up the panoramic views and refuel with a snack or drink (own expense) at one of the eateries, if you wish. Afterward, you’ll reunite with your guide, who will provide drop-off back at your hotel.

We took this tour on our first full day in Bratislava, to acquaint us with the city. The guide gave us a brief history lesson on Slovakia at the beginning and along with the driver, showed us some of the major sites in the area. It was well worth the cost for the private guide and driver as it maximized the amount of time we could spend at each of the sites. It prepared us for the next few days of touring the city on our own.

We enjoyed this tour although I would have liked to be able to stop and take pictures as were were driving. Also I was under the impression were were actually going to visit Devin Castle which of course we didn't. Not sure how that happened. Maybe the sign-up needs to be made clearer.

1 star rating: I do not recommend this May 2017

We only had one day in Bratislava and figured it would be best to have someone show us around. The tour guide seemed to have never been to any of the places we went to and had to read each sign before explaining what we were looking at, then she seemed to have no additional input and would just read the English version of the sign. Then we missed our car to Devin Castle because she was not paying attention to her phone.

We might as well have gone around on our own, I would definitely say it was the worst thing we did in any of the countries we went to, and definitely was not worth the price. It seemed like the company had run out of actual tour guides and merely sent a random person to take us.
