A wonderful day in Bulgaria with a lot of driving but also many great experiences. We were lucky to have tour guide Roberto again who did a great job. Highlights were crossing the border over the Danube, and the fortress complex. Good value for money.

Awesome experience. Our guide, Daniel, was awesome! He was very flexible and stayed later with us as we had a great group.

A full day trip to see two sights in Bulgaria. Our guide gave us a short history lesson about Romania and Bulgaria along the 1.5 hour journey. Through corn and sunflower fields in both countries. Crossing the Danube, the flat plains of Romania gave way to more hilly terrain in Bulgaria. After a short stop to check papers at the border we went to a money exchange and continued to the first sight. The small rooms of the Basarabov Monastery were cut into the side of a rocky hill along a river canyon. After informing us of the story of the region we had plenty of time to explore the rooms and the new monastery. Then continuing for about two hours through a river gorge to the Veliko Tarnovo Fortress. A hot, sunny day the first week of September we then climbed the rocky path steps to the church on the hill, and took an elevator to the top for an impressive view of the city and region below. Next, our guide took us to a restaurant with another amazing view for a lunch of traditional cuisine at our own expense. A short walking tour of the local neighborhood, then back to the city for time to shop. The return to Bucharest took more time as we were warned from the start. The border crossing into Bulgaria was a 15 minute stop the return into Romania at rush hour included an hour wait. And so it goes... but a good introduction tour of two places in Bulgaria!

We knew nothing about Bulgaria before this tour, but it was one of our most memorable ever...even with a bit of rain! If you have an extra day and want to leave Bucharest DO THIS TOUR. Bulgaria was surprisingly beautiful. The rock monastery was small, but fascinating. The cathedral on top of the fortress had amazing, modern murals inside. We'd never seen anything like them. Our guide gave us just enough guidance to help us have fun with our free time in Veliko Tarnovo. This was a rewarding and fun day trip out of Romania!

I was impressed by the knowledge of the guide an by his willingness to help us understand the history and characteristics of the places we visited. The only grudge I have is that a couple of times the guide pointed to a place that we had just passed!! Other than that I enjoyed the trip immensely.

I loved this tour! It was so nice to have the opportunity to see Bulgaria while I was in Bucharest for work, and the sites we visited were amazing. Our guide, Elena, was terrific and very knowledgeable about Bulgarian culture. I had expected long border crossings, but we waited in line only about 30 minutes coming and going. I had wondered how to exchange money, but the tour included a stop to do this as well - you could exchange US Dollars, Euros, or Romanian Leis. The tour was not advertised as small group but there were only four other passengers in a minivan, so the experience was very personal and pleasant. The only problem with the experience is that now I want to spend more time in Bulgaria - I highly recommend this tour!

We were taken to the monestary that was built in the mountain and a fortress. We had time to shop in two and went to the lost delicious restaurant. Our day was fantastic!

A great way to see the Romanian and Bulgarian countryside. Daniel our guide was great and drove well. The UNESCO heritage site we visited was picturesque and interesting. It was a long day driving but worth it if you want a whistle stop tour of Bulgaria. Remember your passport!
