What You Can Expect

Etyek Wine Country Tour with Dinner from Budapest

Visit three Etyek wineries and discover the secrets of local winemaking

The town of Etyek is a relatively young wine region that began production 200 years ago when German settlers first planted vines. Your wine tasting excursion will begin with pickup at your hotel in the central districts of Budapest, followed by a 30-minute drive to the Etyek-Buda wine region.

Amid a hilly backdrop colored by vines, you’ll learn about the region’s notable white varieties, commonly grown from sauvignon blanc and pinot gris grapes. You’ll also have the chance to try Etyek’s famous Törley, a sparkling wine specific to the region. Afterward you’ll travel to Old Wine Hill to hear more about the local soils and acidities as you take in the view of the grape presses, vineyards and villages below. Along with beautiful landscape, Old Wine Hill comprises almost 1,000 wine cellars along its slopes, most no longer in use.

The morning tour option includes two cellar visits and the longer afternoon tour incorporates three. You will be offered four wines from each family-run winery you visit, along with Hungarian snacks. This intimate experience gives you an insider’s peek into the secrets behind each wine as you discuss with your host, typically both the owner and the winemaker, the process behind each glass that you sip. You’ll leave not only with a delicious sampling of the area’s finest but also a closer understanding of the traditions and culture of Etyek’s wine country.

Your final stop will include a traditional 2-course meal at a wine estate. You are welcome to enjoy some additional wines at your own expense while you sample authentic Hungarian dishes. For a sample menu, please see the Itinerary below. Your guides will drive you back to your hotel in Budapest after your meal.

This was the highlight of our trip to Budapest! Our guide was friendly, conversational and so accommodating. The winery stops were charming and of course the wine was incredible. We went in the dead of winter and it was still worth every penny!

This trip was well-organized and a great experience. A van picked up at various hotels, and took us to two wineries. The winery owners hosted the wine tastings, and were personable and knowledgeable. Food was prepared and served at the second winery, and was a good meal of traditional Hungarian cuisine. This was a fun way to see the Hungarian wine industry that I would not have done without this tour.

What a wonderful evening we experienced ! If you love wine and are open to enjoying a true cultural experience of the warmth of Hungary don't pass this one up. From the very beginning this tour was exceptional. Our tour guide, Susann was tremendous and provided us with insight to life in Hungary and was knowledgeable of wine. She served as such a wonderful host to all of the cellars we enjoyed. My husband and I felt that not only did we enjoy the wines but it was the experience of sharing with the locals. While perhaps it was only an evening for us spent with those committed to the craft of wine, we felt so welcomed at each site and it formed a wonderful impression while visiting a lovely country. Thank you Susann for such an enjoyable evening. We began the evening not knowing each other and ended with a new friendship. We loved the pictures you captured of our time and thank you for taking them for our memories! If you are thinking on this one, don't hesitate! We have enjoyed the Napa/Sonoma regions of wine tasting but this is an experience into itself!

A fantastic way to spend Christmas! Joseph was a fantastic guide. The wines were fabulous, such a wonderful experience. One of the top meals we had during our entire trip in Europe was at our last stop. I don't want to give it away by gibing details :.

This was a great tour. It was a half day and not a far drive from the city. We were able to taste local wines and have a typical lunch in a cute winery.

Super tour, 2 different wineries in the countryside of Budapest. Very knowledgeable guide who picked us up at our hotel. Lovely lunch at second winery - everything homemade typically Hungarian. Delicious! We felt that we had made a new Hungarian friend by time she returned us to our hotel! Thanks, Susan!

This was a great tour! We had a chance to see a little bit of the Hungarian wine region and country while enjoying their delicious wine and food! Michal is so nice and explains so much about the wine culture and history. The meal that the chef prepared was excellent! roasted duck, roasted pumpkin, potato suffle, cheese bread and apple pancakes crepes....all, of course, paired with wines. The wine press we visited was also very interesting and offered so many delicious tastings of their wines. I highly recommend taking this tour and opportunity to see even a little glimpse outside of the Budapest city center.
