Budapest City Walking Tour (3 Hours)
At the Hungarian State Opera House, you'll greet your guide and descend to the metro in order to travel to Budapest City Park (Városliget), an expansive park replete with monuments.
At the park’s entrance is Heroes’ Square (Hosok Tér), a UNESCO-listed landmark filled with statues of notable Hungarian leaders. Capture photographs of the monuments and then stroll through the park to Vajdahunyad Castle, constructed in 1896 as part of the Millennial Exhibition.
See, too, the renowned Szechenyi Bath before returning to the city center on the metro. From here, you’ll absorb the neoclassical splendor of St. Stephen’s Basilica and revitalize with a hot drink and two Hungarian pastries in a local café.
Refreshed, amble along cobbled streets to Frederick’s Square and Vaci Street, areas known for their bespoke souvenir shops. After strolling along the Danube Promenade, conclude your tour in the Buda Castle District, where you’ll have the opportunity to capture striking panoramas of Fisherman’s Bastion.
You’ll have 30 minute so free time, to grab lunch or a hot drink, before your next tour begins.
Budapest History Walking Tour (3 Hours)
Return to the Hungarian State Opera House refreshed and greet your guide. During the stroll to your first destination, your guide informs you of Hungary’s role in World War I and II, and how the Hungarian Revolution of 1965 overthrew the communist government.
Visit landmarks significant to the revolution and stand on spots where speeches, protests, and marches occurred: a stop at Liberty Square allows you to see the city’s final tribute to the Soviet Union.
Next, head to an exhibition showcasing cultural artifacts and communist propaganda, including party registration books, passports, and currency. Hear stories of life behind the Iron Curtain, a conceptual barrier established after the decline of communism, and the eclectic items sold on the black market.
Wander next to Budapest Parliament House, a grand, neo-Gothic structure perched on the banks of the Danube River. Learn about important Hungarian figures and then return to your original departure point, where your tour concludes.
