Our day at the San Antonio de Areco estancia was a delight. My daughter and I traveled throughout this lovely country and were determined to visit a working estancia to get the full gaucho experience this tour did not fail. To start, the pick up and arrival at our lodging was on time driver, Gaston, and tour guide, Pablo, were perfect hosts. Pablo is a knowledgeable and charming tour guide, making the two-hour drive from Buenos Aires seem like minutes. We had time to shop for local gifts for friends and family at two lovely stops. But the actual tour site could not have been more of an insight into the life of the cultural treasure that is the gaucho: food, wine, music, dancing, horseback riding. Be prepared for natural congeniality from this community.
We are just back from our Signature Tours day trip to Areco and Estancia el Ombu. Our guide, Pablo kept us entertained on the 2 hr journey with interesting facts about Argentina - its history and people etc.. We made a short stop in San Antonio de Areco before being welcomed to the ranch with delicious empanadas and Malbec. There was then an opportunity to ride a horse or go in a horse drawn carriage through the pampas with a Gaucho. We then enjoyed barbecued meats prior to folk dancing and a display of the gauchos skill with their horses.
An excellent day with an excellent guide and a really good way to get in touch with rural life outside Buenos Aires.
Very relaxing and beautiful. We enjoyed the company of very friendly dogs.
Loved our time in San Antonio de Areco, especially the afternoon at the Estancia. We were well taken care of - great food and such a lovely landscape. So fun to learn about the gauchos and their horses, and the horseback ride around the estancia was fabulous! Our tour guide was knowledgeable, gave lots of information about history and culture of Argentina. He could skip telling about his experiences in the U.S. as not really relevant to the tour. Americans know about racism in the U.S. and non-Americans probably do not care.
A trip well worth doing. Nicholas the guide and the driver were excellent. The whole Estancia experience was wonderful.
With an easy two hour journey with a halfway comfort stop we arrived at El Ombu, a small but lovely estate to be greeted by a coral of some 30 riding horses and two tall lean and handsome Gauchos. After delicious beef empanadas and a glass of Malbec we were assigned suitable horses and rode out at a comfortable walk through grass fields and passed meaty Aberdeen Angus cattle lying in the shade. For a novice is was fine and comfortable and within 50 minutes we reassembled at the stylish old Estancia for lunch on the verandah. A wide variate of differing cuts a succulent beef and freshly made salads were enjoyed with plenty of wine. Vegetarians are also considered.
A dance by the gauchos and two women in long red skirts, which grew into a mass participation, was followed by some lovely and impressive horse handling and demonstrations. A wonderful day.
We had a fantastic day all round, great fun on the horses, great food and entertainment. Pablo was a superb guide and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole day out.
Wonderful way to spend my birthday. Visited the lovely town of San Antonio de Areco, before going to the estancia.
Made very welcome by the owners, had refreshments before horse riding, then enjoyed a great barbeque meal. They very kindly made me a small cake to celebrate.
The entertainment to follow included singing, dancing and horsemanship displays, and I also met up with a friend I had recently made.
Best experience I had in Argentina and best steak I had in South America. Nicolás made sure everyone in the group had great time. He is funny, friendly and knows BA inside and out. The whole experience was not touristic at all. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to have a beautiful day out.
We highly recommend this tour if you want an escape from the city for a day. Pablo was a great guide giving us insight into contemporary Argentinian life and thinking, as well as the gaucho culture. The stop in San Antonio de Areco could have been a little longer to properly enjoy the gaucho museum and shop. The staff at the Estancia were great. Made us feel welcome especially since they seemed to enjoy themselves as well.
