John met us outside customs at the airport. We immediately started a tour of the main attractions of Buenos Aires. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the city and country. He made the tour very enjoyable and dropped us off at our hotel at the end. It was an excellent way to start our visit to Buenos Aires.
Howard, from Buenos Aires Taxis Private Tours, met us earlier than was stated which was great because we got off the ship a little earlier than expected due to the excellent organization of Celebrity Cruises.
He immediately loaded our bags in his spacious trunk, we got into the car, which was very comfortable, and away we went on the tour of our lives. Howard was passionate and extremely well informed. We learned so much!
We first visited the Rose Dahl or 3rd of February Park. It was lovely with all the roses, birds, and swans. Howard came prepared with crackers and we fed the birds which responded cheerfully eating away as we tossed them broken crackers. We took many photos of the park and of each other as the park held many picture perfect scenes for remembering our trip. It was a fresh and lovely morning walk as we took in all the scenes including a tree that was 90 years old and had an amazingly huge trunk! The branches of the tree looked like additional trees!
We had breakfast at a pier on the water and the croissants were delicious! They reminded us of some back home but these were better!
Next we would make our way to the park of memory . This park is dedicated to the 30,000 Argentines who disappeared during the dictatorship between the years 1976 to 1983. We were astonished that someone could be so cruel even as to execute pregnant women! It was a somber but informative moment for us. The art work surrounding the area was exceptional and moving.
We went on to visit Recoleta and the final resting place of EVA Evita Peron. The tombs were designed with such detail and no expense was spared. The black marble tombs were our favorite. From there we walked through an area similar to a flea market back home and found all kinds of beautiful items. We were able to purchase souvenirs to take back home to loved ones. This would be followed by the plaza San Martin and the Plaza de Mayo. This plaza has a rich history and the mothers of the plaza de Mayo still march theirevery Thursday holding the pictures of their disappeared youngsters and wearing theiriconic headscarves. This is also the sight of the Casa Rosada where Evita made herfamous balcony speech. We would move on then to the Theatro Colon and the 9th of July Avenue which at 18lanes wide is the worlds largest and quite a sight to behold. We had lunch in San Telmo and La Boca with the famousCaminito. Each time we travel we purchase a photo frame from that area. Here in LaBoca we found a gorgeous handmade frame to hold our photo from this trip. We also had lunch and watched a couple dance the Tango.
From here we went to an area which we requested that was not on the itinerary.
At the end of the tour he took us to EZE airport AND HELPED US WITH OUR LUGGAGE. This tour was a wonderful way to complete our cruise to Antarctica and visit to Buenos Aires. When we return to the area we will book it again and hope that Howard is available. He was simply great! What a great end to a great cruise. Argentina is lovely.
Our tour guide, John Boyle, was outstanding! We managed to get all of our luggage into the vehicle, and went directly to our hotel to drop it off. Then we took an amazing historical trip of Buenos Aires.... we learned so much and saw so much. The order in which we visited the various stops was perfect! The story just kept building on itself. I highly recommend this as the first tour in Buenos Aires!
